tairo, qld

Post by madiesmum »

writing this from a lovely little town in qld. free camp for 2 nights right in town. free solar powered shower in disabled toilet - 2mins at a time. great butcher and supermarket. playground for the kids.
haven't seen much of madie today, she is having fun up in the park - forgot sunscreen today so she will look like a lobster later lol. I am enjoying the time out before the hustle and bustle of maryborogh (sp?) and Harvey bay tomorrow.

It's worth a visit just to go to the Butchers Shop. :)

Great spot AM Having lived in the area for some 30 years and 17 of those in the Tiaro Shire.
Was the forward thinking of the Craft Shop (make sure you go in) and the Reginal Development officer at the time (cant remember his name). For the free camp. There is another one on the Nth side over the river but not sure if its open since the flooding that occured.
The original owner of the Butcher shop has passed on, but the service hasnt changed.
Most of the meat was killed on site in the "olden" days but I remember them.
Enjoy your time there with maddie.

Hi, all

AM - if in Tairo, I suggest you might carry on past the free camp to the top of the next hill - there's a wide turning circle for the bus, the obligatory gravel pit, peace and quiet, fresh breezes and it's a great walk back to the shops. The adjacent pony club was a holding area for the CMCA Maryborough rally.

If your digestion is anything like Chuck's DO NOT buy chorizos from the butcher.
See you on the back roads,

towns like that really do benefit from people like us - I spend a fair bit of money there at the butcher and supermarket and hippy shop. disappointed the info shop was out of fridge magnets as I really wanted one from there. so if any of you have one please contact me. met some awesome people and even shared last nights dinner with a lovely german girl camping in her car while waiting for her mates to come back from frazer island.

oh and met a bloke who is walking with his dog from geelong to cairns - amazing bloke. daniel I think his name is.

When they told him to catch a Greyhound from Geelong to Cairns, they meant the bus, not the dog :D

We passed him on the Pacific Highway, just north of Coffs Harbour, I think he's the "Fatman on tour" raising money for cancer research.
