U Tube playing problem

Post by Kelvin12 »

G'Day All,

Whenever I click onto a link to play a U tube video the thing starts alright but when it gets to about 10 seconds into the video it stops dead. The thing is still downloading, the little swirly thing is spinning but that's all that happens. Hell would freeze over before the video recommences. I have to go away and do something else for ages to let it do its own thing or I do a forced shut down to get out of the thing as it won't let go anywhere else until its ready. Sometimes it goes OK but that's rare and as a rule now we just delete the link if it comes via an email or don't bother if its a link say as here on the forum. Any ideas what's going on here. This seems to have only happened in the last months maybe the last 12 or so. Getting a little gun shy here about opening these videos.

Any help appreciated as always.

Sounds like a slow connection problem?
I think Telstra/Bigpond also have decided certain things get priority in 'downloading rights". Read it somewhere.
What sort of connection do you have Dirk?

Bruce,

Westnet ADSL wireless via modem. Not sure exactly what you are talking about here. Sometime ago Westnet sold out and that seems to be some of the problem, I think as pretty regularly the email drops out, (something about Pop and failed to connect to the provider). The old Westnet we never had a problem or if we did it was something I did but with this new operator drop outs all the time. The only way to get back was to shut down and restart, often a few times before the connection was made again. Will be going to Big Pond shortly for on the road service. Real PIA if you were bidding on something on ebay and hanging on till the last minute.

ADSL wireless via modem?
So........ not over phoneline? It is a USB wireless thing with SIM card in it?

If you're in a poor reception area it may be only running in 2G mode.
If it's a slow connection it will need to pause constantly & is really useless for live streaming as you have found out.
Do a speedtest here. Once you click on it don't do anything or even touch your mouse.
http://www.ozspeedtest.com/
For instance my results here on ADSL over phoneline is ...........
""""" Your download speed is 829 KB/s (0.81 MB/s). """""

Bruce,

Talking to a few others about this and it seems it is pretty common nowadays. No idea what's going on may be something to do with U tube themselves. Seems OK yesterday then failed again this morning. Seems to be something to do with the size of the video. Might avoid U tube for a bit.

FINALLY got to the bottom of the U tube viewing thing. Well at least it seems to be right now. Dumped the Microsoft Silver Lite program and now it seems to be running alright.
