Re: EerWeGoAgen Departs Sept 1st 2013
did you end up having the knee replaced Dirk? After Tassie Mark's report on his knee replacement I'm none too keen to rush into it, but each case is different I guess.Kelvin12 wrote:Dot, the old fella won't get much vitamin C outdoors, that vitamin D. Vitamin C is from the likes of oranges....Lol. So ends the vitamin lesson for the day.
Good to hear he is on the mend though. Hated the walking frame and stick after the initial knee op. Remember the one where you were pushing me to get a replacement and called me a sook for not getting the replacement. Actually knee is going pretty well and happy with it the way it is. Only hurts when I kneel on it and as you know I don't do much of that....Lol.
Dirk
The specialist told me if I had it replaced I'd never run again because the knee would fall appart.... more than the knee would fall appart I was to try to run these days

G'Day Terry,
No after the arthroscope and hobbling around for a couple of weeks/months, I decided to let sleeping dogs lie and just see how things went. It took a while but its back to where it was before the arthroscope and something I can live with. After talking with the specialist and him saying you won't be able to kneel on it, or squat down to work as that would bust the knee out well that sort of ruled me out of getting it done. I have a crook back and have to squat to work or kneel so not being able to do either that made me decide not on your life, I am half stuffed as it is without more problems. I defiantly favour the crook knee and have to be careful getting back up to standing but use a milk crate to do that just in case and don't use the crook knee as its a tad unreliable at times. Generally is doesn't give me a real lot of pain except if I sleep with the leg hanging out of the bed on a hot night then its real painful to get the thing going again. I can't walk long distances, (God made cars to do that) but that's not something l like anyway....unless its to get a beer and no one else is around...Lol. I just reckon the cons far out weigh me getting the replacement, plus one other thing persuaded me against was I have to finish this bus and don't want to be laid up for months. PLUS as Dot said I am a sook....... How unkind is that...

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind
When the bus is done and you have been for a good trip then the knee will be done as it is in the theatre
If Norman can get his done and not cry about it then a big strapping X fuzzie surely can, I have been told it is easy to swing the leg over as well
what ever that is supposed to mean

The only leg swinging that goes on around here is to get out of bed.... To old for that sort of nonsense so someone tells me.
If the knee holds up like it is now then I'll be happy enough. More worried about the back than the knee. Specialist wants another $5K on top of the medicare fee. Strike me dead I'm not worth that much melted down for scrap.

Change specialists, one that works in the public hosp as well as private. Might be a long waiting list but at least you don't pay for their Beamers etc.. and by the time your number comes up you will be ready to have it done.

Had it done twice now some 20 years ago. Not happy about going through it again. Most specialist over charge these days, snouts in the trough. We only have one up here, gets a subsidy to visit here, supposed to be one of the best but not for that sort of money.

Re: EerWeGoAgen Departs Sept 1st 2013
Hello everyone. I'm back home 9pm
was to be at the hosp for 133ohrs, got there early 1145hrs. All paperwork done then changed into those paper gown, hat slippers and the big white dressing gowns and was shown the waiting room. Sat there for the next 7 hrs, yes I said 7 hrs. Then I was taken to the next holding area where another nurse asked the same q's and the gas man came and asked me some more q's and then I waited another half an he before being led to the cold theatre where I greeted by the Greek god surgeon, Placed face down on the bed with a pillow under my tummy and another under my shins . Then the gas man put the needle in my hand and that was all she wrote till I was being spoken to and told to open my eyes etc.. After about another half an hr I was wheeled into the part where I was tipped off the bed onto a beautiful reclining chair and was given some sandwiches and 2 cups of tea. Seeing as I kept that down I was allowed to go home (8pm) My poor friend had hung around all day and she was supposed to be going out for tea but that's what friends are for !! This time the procedure was nothing like the "test" injections before, I felt nothing even though I only had sedation.. The pain might be heightened for a week or two but hopefully I should reap the benefits soon.. If it does a good job I will have NO hesitation to get it done again IF needed every year.. G has had a better day as well, even had a little salad ready for me and the most wonderful cup of tea ever... feeling very washed out so might go to bed and pat my pussy.... Hope your stabs in the neck Terry are as successful as my stabs were... xxx

Great to hear it all went well. So, what did you have done? Did they burn the nerves with radio therapy or was it some sort of injections?
Not sure what to expect tomorrow, whether to go for the same as the first lot but both side or the lower site from the first one and the next one down just to finish off the left side reaction tests.
When the final ones are done it will be radio therapy to burn the nerves away, supposed to take 12 mth to grow back but they haven't mentioned any thing about the pain being heighten for a week or so

So glad to hear it all went relatively well Dot. More power to you and George and of course all good thoughts to Terry for tomorrow.
