Inglish as She is Writ

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

From a tradie's flyer in our letterbox last week:

Specialising in: Kitchen's, Bathroom's, laundry's [sic], Entertainment Ofiice's [sic], Commercial.

AAARRGH!

From the Real Estate section of out local rag; some verbal diarrhoea, as well as a shotgun apostrophe:

As you enter this dynamic home [as opposed to static?] you can sense and visualize [US spellchecker] its [correct: no apostrophe ;) ] attention to detail for big family living. [translation: 'You can see the quality.'] Quality[-]built light[-]filled abode offer's [ :o ] enviable plan.[translation:  ]

Double AAARRGH!!

Wouldn't it be "it's" as the apostrophe shows the possession of it, as in belonging to the dynamic home?

My biggest Arhhhhhhhhhhhhh is the news readers/presenters on the TV. They seem to have forgotten the letter T and have replaced it with the letter D, e.g. no matter becomes no madder or madda. I remember listening to the BBC and even the ABC news when they spoke so you could understand every word but even they seem to have declined. Oh what has the world come to and will only get worserer

Ah dozen madda.

My pet hate of late is the missing "of", as in "going away for a couple of days", not "going away for couple days".

I see this every couple days on forums and blogs.

Terry,
You've fallen into the trap...
"Its" in the possessive does not use the apostrophe. One of the peculiarities of the language.
"It's" with the apostrophe indicates a contraction of "it is"; as in 'It's going to be a fine day.'

Class dismissed... :D

One of the peculiarities of the language.
They say that English is a very hard language to learn, hard to imagine why really, after all there's a rule to cover everything except the things the rules don't cover that have their own rules :)
