From a hardware cattledog I picked up today:

In the same cattledog – from a list of features of a ute toolbox:

"Has a piano lid hinge..."

Ahhh... but the trade name for that type of hinge is a piano hinge, it is cut to length as required and the hinge pin anchored by either a centre punch indentation the through the fixed section to the pin or a tack of weld to stop it dropping out, this way the pin remains an active part of the assembly creating a better cycle life and easier operation. The hinges on a bus bi fold door are still referred to as piano hinges.
Maybe it should have read "it has a piano hinged lid

As for the "course" file, maybe it's a training session on how to use one properly But seriosly, they are only designed the cut in one direction, forward, dragging them backwards while presure is applied damages the cutting teeth by curling them over so the shape face is no longer available for the next forward stroke.

You're right.
The second listing should have been 'piano-hinged lid' not 'piano lid hinged'
I've used many of them on projects... very handy that they can be cut to any desired length.
I even carry a short length in my m/h 'emergency repair' kit. Not only can it be used as a hinge, but also to hold panels together, secure a plywood patch, etc...

I learnt a lesson about that "piano hinge".
I bought a whole roll of it (Gold/brass/bronze plated) because it was cheaper than several shorter lengths & left the remainder of the roll just inside my garage door (open).
Of course we had a good shower of rain & I thought nothing about it.
A day later I noticed the surface rust on it. It won't buff off either.
I've kept it in case I want some hinges for the workshop or something. Be warned!!

Not until 1st or 2nd week of January. Settlement is 15/1/14.
The house is gradually filling with cardboard boxes as the shelves & cupboards look much barer.
It took 26 boxes just to pack up the bookshelves!
My 'Play Pen' (workshop) is now half-empty. The contents occupy multiple boxes (not game to count them ) spread over one half of our double garage! Leaving the rest until after Christmas... I might find time to turn decent pieces of wood into much sawdust.

I don't know if we should excuse this one, on account of the bloque is a Yank , but I just watched "Dream Car Garage" on the box, where the owner of a classic Shelby Cobra Sports Racing (hardtop) car was discussing modifications made during restoration (if that's not an oxymoron ).
"We replaced the flat glass in the doors with curved glass, because the wind turbulated on the flat glass."

At least now we know where to point the finger for the trend to use nouns as verbs & vice versa.
