Greg water tank

Post by bellett65 »

I am going GREEN. I have bought a 52 litre tank to use as a very water tank. I will have tipo attached inlets and outlets. Has any one had any success in attached inlet/outlets to plastic tanks.

Let me guess, this was sent from one of those annoying predictive text things  a Greg water tank wouldn't be any use fr a peter or a Rainie eh
Plastic welding is an art form, the material added must be the same as the material the tank is made from, different plastics can not be welded together.
There was a product the panel beating industry had for repairing plastic bumpers and other plastic body parts. It used a primer spray to make all the surfaces compatible with the glue, the glue was in a 2 pack twin plunger unit with a special mixing tube. I attended a demo night for this product and it seemed to create a very strong join, but it wasn't cheap. I think this was the stuff http://www.lord.com/products-and-soluti ... ct.xml/298

The other alternative is Q Bond, no idea how long it remains strong though. A lot of people swear by it for quick repairs etc but I'm not too sure how it would go for the job you need to do. Possibly if you "V" out the joint so a heavy build up of material can be applied would do the job.

Plastic or Poly? I think most are made of poly now. Most manufacturers have a choice of inlet/outlets than can be attached.

I used brass fittings and soft nylon washers when fitting irrigation taps to a tank at last house...
Worked for me.

Well an update, still got the 52 litre tank in workshop. I ended up fitting a 135 litre tank. I replaced all the 25mm pvc pies and fittings with 40mm. It has 2 HepVo valves in the system those pipes go to the bottom of the tank and the shower to the top, The drain hose has been replaced with 40mm marine sullage hose.It has a smooth bore The sinks and shower now empty really fast. The tank when full will empty in about 40 seconds
