Called into Latrobe on our way to Ulverstone and checked out the council camping area where we had previously stayed and it was empty, the rules were that restrictive plus $10 a night. No washing of clothes or vehicles, all grey/black to be contained for 48hr stay, no clothes or bedding to be hung outside.
The caravan park has closed as well.

Man I'll say. Wow! I've stayed there twice (that's me in the middle) and dumped money into the locals. PS back when I was there, you were not even allowed so much as a tent peg - verboten!Boblebago wrote:...the rules were that restrictive...

Could have, but had just come off the ferry* (shower on board), so wouldn't have been too ripe. I don't fancy parking in someones back pocket and am fanatic about leveling, so would have jockied back and fourth many times to self level - it was just the logical spot away from encroachment.pop's coaster54 wrote:Did you have bad bo ...
dawg (*warning, don't eat ferry food. I was so sick I needed the 48 hours to recover from that experience)
Edit: no shower tent Bruce as I said, NOT even one peg shall be driven! Even free standing is probably not allowed. There was a decent toilet block very nearby on the grounds.

Still no tent pegs, and they have extended the carpark out past the toilets.

Re: Latrobe....not so free camping
Bummer!
Looks like the Ferry/Island trip is off our Christmas list, too.
Stayed at Latrobe campground (FREE) a few years ago, and also pumped lots of $$$ into town economy.
Almost every one of the 8 vans/Mhs on site did the same.
Looks like the town will be the loser.
BTW, checked out the CP across the creek: no way we could have fitted our 42ft (13m) combination on one of their sites, even separating trailer & Jim. Looks like the sites were laid out in the 50s for the FC & 12ft plywood box, and never changed to accommodate today's big-4WD/28ft combinations.

I was told by a local that the caravan park had closed as well.
He wasn't to happy with the council.
