Kay, there seem to be a number of Nissan Patrol forums and more than one Australian based. Do a Google search for Nissan Patrol forum and you will get a bunch of hits. You will more than likely find what you are looking for there or get a good response if you post the question there.

Hi Lesley. Was given a Patrol link on CF so shall show Bruce when he gets back. This dumb chick never thought of doing that (only been putting up with this for past 280,000 ks as just turned over 400,000). Has had many suggestions over the years.

OK here is my post.
Is there anyone out there with a "proven" way to solve the problem of our 4.2 Nissan patrol- the majority of them have this problem of over heating.

Until the super mechanic arrives, I'll have a crack at it
More information required, is it every hill? is it only when the outside temp is above XX degrees? Can you shine torch from the fan side of the radiator and see the light through the grille? Does air enter below the bumper and directed up infront of the radiator? Is the fan shroud fitted and sealed around the edges of the radiator? Can you hear the fan roar when the eng starts to get hot according to the temp gauge?
The answers to these will help produce either a single sure fire fix, or a combination of things wrong that need to be sorted first and see if the over heating still exists.

Re: 4.2 Nissan Patrol over heating.
AS I posted on another Forum.
Note I love my Patrol but after 350k it was time to update.
I had a 4.2 Patrol GU, and this is how I fixed it's overheating.
• Heating Probs.
Change the air con sensor left side bottom of radiator to one that allows the temp to go a bit higher and doesn't trip air con next is to flush block add one bottle of water wetter its made by red line oils get the pink one for commercial vehicles.
It drops your operating temperature by 45 deg , after you have flushed every thing add water wetter then top with distilled water. You can add your normal antifreeze when adding the distilled water.
The water wetter is available from most places that sell truck parts .The sensor is available from Nissan but make sure it is the one that allows the heat to increase. This then stops the annoying air con cut out happening too early. Make sure you thoroughly flush the block and the radiator including the heater core. It really worked for me.

Terry It was sealed before the new radiator ( 12 mths ago) was installed but is not sealed at the moment. This heating problem has always been there.

Hi One Dodger and welcome to the forum. I only just realised it was your first post, otherwise I would have welcomed you earlier.

That only partly answered 1 of the questions KayMacca wrote:Terry It was sealed before the new radiator ( 12 mths ago) was installed but is not sealed at the moment. This heating problem has always been there.

Get the radiator out and have the tanks removed and the core rodded out to remove all the rubbish. Have the rear welsch pugs knocked out, the block hosed out in every direction, new welsch plugs fittered and one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-NYLON-RA ... _682wt_684 fitted in the top radiator hose. This will filter out the rest of the rubbish still floating around in the system.
