What has happened to common courtesy?

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

You're singing our song, people!

That's why, in the relocation to Rutherglen, we've dropped the landline.

Seemed 19/20 calls were of the types mentioned: 'surveys' that turned into "If you switch to our power/phone/internet company we can save you a zillion dollars a month"; Pelbo's cancer appeal calls (I gave them a similar answer  ); and of course the Indian/Paki/Philipino call centres ignoring the 'Do Not Call' register.

Since the move: BLISS! The only calls we receive are people who really want to talk to us.

And no calls asking for SWMBO by her (unused) first name! That was always a dead give-away that we were about to hear a sales pitch. We used to do the 'Hang on, I'll get her' (even SWMBO did it :P ) then leave the phone on the kitchen bench for 20 minutes or so.
Funny, they were never there when we went back to the call...
Never thought to try Pelbo's answer to the UN-courteous calls:
"Talking about phone courtesy, when my children were teenagers, I got sick and tired of the lack of courtesy on the phone. I told my kids from now on I expected a modicum of good manners on the phone. Such as "Good morning Mr pelbo. how are you? This is Fred Blogs. Would Lisa be available please?"

But all I normally got was, "Is Lisa there?"

My reply: "Yes she is". Then I would hang up.

They got the message pretty quickly after that!"

I LIKE it!
