Hi, all.
Decided to stop at Bell’s Bay for lunch. Quite a pleasant spot, with boat ramp, picnic tables, long drop dunny, fire pits, and only $10 pvpn plus $2 pppn. Word to the wise - neither approach road should be attempted by an expensive vehicle, and if coming from the west you will find the white dog featured as the Camps book icon is actually a Maremma. Don’t get out and pat it.You have been warned.
Bell's Bay.

Re: Bell's Bay.
Shonky, can you give us a bit more info on where Bell's Bay is please? I Googled it and came up with a few different places. Perhaps I'm not as astute as everyone else but your third and fourth sentences go right over my head.

Maybe Bell Bay Tasmania? Maremma, dog used to guard livestock.

Thanks, George. I Googled Maremma as well but I have the CAW #6 book and don't see any dog in the logo. Perhaps I'm just having an off day. Packing is a pain in the proverbial!

Re: Bell's Bay.
Hi, all.
Bell's Bay is between Kyogle and Bonalbo, and not to be attempted unless one is willing to back up 100 meters or so, and not mind the sound of a graunching tow bar at creek crossings.
Maremmas were bred to stop predators attacking sheep, goats etc in the Italian high country. Should you wish to give your arm to a canine bred to attack wolves it's your choice. These dogs are used a lot in Australia to keep off dingoes and other nasties, and an acquaintance saw a couple of them drown a medium "roo in a dam for that week's ration.

Hi, all
Swisslulu - look for the white dog icon alongside the little pictures of toilets, picnic tables etc. No, this does not indicate there are vicious attack dogs at various campsites, but we had a Maremma go off it's block at our bus 5km West of Bell's Bay. Note many farmers leave the dogs to fend for themselves, which IMHO is cruelty.

Re: Bell's Bay.
Thanks for the clarification, Shonky. I watched a segment on Toonumbar Dam last weekend and thought it a magic spot and somewhere we could waste time whilst awaiting our build at RV HB. So I take it you have a bus and Toad. We have an LC 200 and high clearance Kedron so assume we should not have any problem getting in. Now the CAW reference to the dog icon makes sense. Thanks mate!

Hi, all
Rob - the speedo at Ceratodus showed around 198k whereas now we've clicked over 204k, or 6000 km in ten months. Still too much.
BTB I understand your paddock could be free in August. Do you still drink OP's?

6000klm WOW, that's 20klm a day, every day!!! You better park up for a while.
We will probably be going to Mareeba for the Mareeba Rodeo and Xmas in July and maybe onto Cooktown for News Year Eve in July as well. Will be back in August sometime and heading off for Tassie about the 1st of September. Keep in touch, it's a big paddock. I drink lots of things, what's a OP, other peoples? If that's it, yep I will drink yours
