The. Great Alpine Road here we come

Post by Ros20549 »

Ivan and I are on the road again for a few weeks currently in North East Vic enjoying a few days free camped here and there , our main aim of this trip is to travel the The great Alpine Way so will be watching the weather for a good day to do it, from there we plan to go to Lakes entrance and onto Marlo for a couple of weeks then home to await the birth of another grandchild before packing up again for another adventure north. Will try and post a few photos of the free camps we find on the way

Cheers Ros

This post reminded me to check Melbourne weather for Wednesday, our return day from Saigon where it has been 35c every day! Raining when we left and expecting rain when we arrive back. Hope I can find my jacket.

Regards Geoff

PS we spent 3 months at Bowmans Forest between Beechworth and Myrtleford 2 years ago from April that's when we fitted the diesel heater.

Well we made it over the top to Hotham what a drive :o made a run for it last Friday as the weather looked like it was closing in and close in it did just as we reach Mt Hotham Village, we moved on quickly to Dinner Plain where they have a hard standing free camp spot. We had one hell of a thunder storm not long after setting up. You are able to stay for 7 nights, toilets., dump point, good water (was able to fill tanks after asking a local) free BBQ and a big pit fire place with amble wood the area was quite large but on a slope was little hard to find a bit of level ground will post a photo or two in the camps area . We stayed two days here and did a couple of walks and a good look around the village. We then started our decent down the mountain found another great little camp spot at a place called Victoria Falls , we had 2 days there and today we have moved on again to a little place called Ensay and at present camped behind the Little river Pub camping is $14.00 per night no power or water but the use of the shower and toilets in the pub and meals available going to try them out tonight. Have a few more camping spot to post will do later. From here who knows in no hurry to get anywhere now :D

Cheers Ros

The drive from Bright to Mt Hotham is an interesting drive . My wife became a bit off colour when we did it a couple of weeks ago. Dinner Plains is a nice spot. One place we stayed at was Jokers Flat, plenty of room and I managed to find a small gold nugget down at the river.

Enjoy your trip.
