Hi Wayne,
no, thankyou very much for the thought though.
Will wait for Peter to see if he gets a reading from his testing tonight.
I have a feeling it uses about the same as one little LED on an indicator light on the front of a TV!! (almost nothing)

I have checked the top hat screamer,my meter is being tempermental, could not measure current, but resistance is 7000 ohms(in the off state)The top hat should draw approx 20 M/amps or there abouts when operating.cheers Peter. .................................................No responsibility taken for calculations,if you get a flat battery, sorry get out and push... :D :D

I stand corrected, just found the specs for the screamer @ 12v DC,105 dbm it draws 110 MA.It may be a bit loud for a high and low battery alarm, there are smaller less noisy electronic buzzers available :) (just a thought)cheers Peter.

The alarm driver can handle 500mA (not sure watt that is in Ah) so it will be able to drive the screamer direct, perhaps in a sound proof box? Maybe you could put that terrible noise that could be heard in the boat moving video clip in the same box ad they could annoy each other ;)

To soften the noise of the screamer wrap some duct or electrical tape over the gaps at the top of the case .cheers Peter

Thankyou everyone for the info.
I have a couple of real decent chaps with lovely wives (or girl friends?) who watch the boat when we're not onboard.
We all watch out for each other in case of broken ropes, drowned dinghy's etc etc.
Maybe I could rig up an emergency "PULL THIS CORD IF THE ALARM RINGS" ?? (joke) ;) ;)
Just hope the Police don't come running as they're only a km away!!
These suckers are so loud!

Here is a similar unit which is rated at 200mA

I would hope that your alarm system shuts it off well before the battery goes flat.
