So where are we now???

Post by shonky »

Hi, all.

Well we’ve worked out three stages of retirement -
(A) when you don’t know, or care, what time it is.
(B) when you have only a vague idea what day it is.
(C) when you wake up and you have no idea where you are..

So, we’re parked by a North-flowing river, with a small bridge leading to the quietest part of the site, and a much larger bridge on the main drag, leading to a small town about one and a half clicks away. The (free) large camp area has a number of black cattle, good grass, CWA birds visiting occasionally, and a pair of predatory guineafowl who love our nice shiny hubcaps and scare the living cr*p out of Steffie. We were invited to the re- opening of the rabbit processing plant today but declined as our nap time takes priority. Steffie spends most of her time under the bus now, but keeps the small cattle at least two meters away from our site.
We left Brisbane on the 18th Feb, have travelled roughly 800km in a vaguely West direction at our usual breakneck speed. So who can help?
See you on the back roads,

Shonky I'm thinking you should throw Steffie in the MH & put the foot down & join us lot at the river get together.
We are mostly going to vegetate & get to know one another.
Once you get there the water & air is free and clean. (well as long as Chuck stays away, that is!)

You must be out near Burke I'm guessing?

Hi, all.

Bruce S, - nope, we said vaguely West, so it's a wee bit closer to the coast.

Hi, all

There's another stage of retirement,
(D) when you wake up and have no idea where we're going next?
It was written down somewhere but I think maybe Steffie ate it. Note we've decided against FNQ as it would take too long, we want to be back in Maroochydore for Xmas, and our average daily distance travelled is 15km. Can anyone help?

Hi, all.

So after serious deliberation we'll probably head for Inverell. Probably.

Hi, all.

So after driving for a whole morning - it was 110km, Mrs shonky and I took turns at the wheel- we found that the Inverell Showgrounds are locked in a vicious battle with the the local council, the result being that are only six powered sites available where thirty unpowered sites could be set up. One cannot book a site, it's first in first served, and we've seen bitter arguments when the sixth and seventh (potential) customers turn up.Make no mistake, Inverell is a great town, with the shopping precinct barely one km from the show grounds, but the local caravan proprietors have a strong influence with the council - have we heard that before? - and IMHO the town is missing out on revenue accordingly. BTW a site costs $20, with all facilities.
