Wayco and Engle came to mind however the cost at around $ 1,500 for a 55 litre fridge/freezer was out of my available resources, would break the budget, and leave nothing for diesel fuel at around $1.70 plus per litre. I could buy a Wayco and sit in the back yard, but this would defeat the purpose of the Great Winter Escape.
“Russell” and I held a committee meeting and decided to have a look at e-Bay for an alternative to overcome the restricted financial situation. I found a remarkable unit being offered for $399.00 with free Courier delivery to my residence. This sounded too good to be true, and would solve all of my concerns on how to carry enough frozen food for the period away from Supermarkets while camped in a remote area.
Rather than rush in and buy a pig-in-a-poke thing, I sent a p/m. message to a bloke [well known on this Forum] who has respected knowledge of all things; pleading for his guidance before I made the purchase. I received an almost immediate reply from him informing me of what battery durability, recharging, solar panel activity, and generator alternative power I would require to have the unit function and perform while I am at the campsites. He also was able to guide me on suitability of the freezer/fridge and the Supplier of the unit, from his previous interaction with the Company.
THE BIG PURCHASE:-
I have now purchased 2014 year model new 55 litre Dual action 12 v/24v/240v Compressor type Fridge/Freezer [made by Cenco], branded MISHTO Brand, which weighs 19 kg, can fit between the 2 single beds in the house part of the Sprinter., where it will be out of the way and does not restrict the foot space between the single beds. Also an added advantage is that I can use the top of the unit as a coffee table while I am wineing, dineing, reclining, and watching TV when I am not at ‘Happy Hour’ with other Forum Members or attending Dots’ Great Shave for her charity group. ---Free plug there for you Dot !
The Freezer was consigned within 24 hours by the e-Bay seller, bit_deals , with tracking number supplied, and it is scheduled to arrive at my place next week. (at another site I think I have to include a disclaimer that I have no interest in the Company selling the item).
WATCH THIS SPACE FOR CONTINUED REPORTS AS I PLAY WITH MY NEW FREEZER and try it out BEFORE I HIT THE ROAD ON THE “GREAT WINTER ESCAPE”

I bit the bullet a couple or weeks back, all for similar reasons, to you I decided on a similar unit, I decided on an evakool unit, (a re-badged Cemco unit), I chose a 45l model which better suits our usage which means we carry it in the back of the Suzuki
with its associated size constrictions. I ordered a watt meter from HK which arrived yesterday, which I set up this morning using a 12v power pack, (from a previous fridge) to power the unit and I hooked up the watt meter this morning and have the first set of figures for an 8 hour period. When I first powered up the fridge had been on 240v, was down to temp and had cycled off. current on the meter was 0.0 and the voltage 12.1v ( voltage shown on the meter was 12.2)
When the fridge cycled on the readings were 3.48A and 12.09V 46.2w, over an 8hr period from 9am to 5pm the readings were as follows
45.4 WH (watt hours)
3.757 AH (amp hours)
55.7 Wp (peak Wattage)
4.61 Ap (peak Amps)
12.09 Vm (minimum Volts)

What I intend to do is take all these readings over a 24 hr period repeat the lot starting with a fridge full or warm product and see what the difference is, then repeat the process with the fridge set as a freezer, with frozen product and then again freezing 5kg of fish or meat. I feel that it will be an interesting experiment and look forward to seeing the findings.

My needs are such that the Vitrofrigo that is in the Sprinter is a 130 litre "thing" which sits under the sink cupboard unit.

The freezer part of it is only 3 inches and I can't get a 2 litre tub of Ice Cream in, without letting the contents almost melt, and then decant into a container that I can fit into the small opening freezer shelf.

I can only fit 4 packs of Weis Bars in the freezer , and then there is no room for steak, prawns, pre-cooked meals etc.

Another drawback is that with the existing fridge being under the sink, I have difficulty seeing what is on the lower shelf of the thing. I have to get down on my knees to have a look to see what is in there.
This is not a great problem----the difficult part is getting up again.
I expect that Dot will make a comment about me "getting up" after I have been down on my knees.

It was either a washing machine to keep up with the Beaumonts, or go the car freezer/fridge route. I have a small twin tub washing machine that I bought for the IVECO conversion, but "Russell" thinks that Ice Cream is a better than having clean clothes. Plus; the car freezer [with the lid closed] makes an ideal coffee table conveniently located between the beds.
