Protection for front of Van ??

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Protection for front of Van ??

Post by Ros20549 »

Hi we are getting ready to take off again (well when the van is fixed) A part of our trip this time we will be going on the dirt road from Birdsville to Windorah. BOSS is trying to rig up something to place across the front of the van to protect it from stone damage thinking of tapping a tarp up, do others have any ideas for us. Have you tapped a tarp ? did it work? and what sort of tape did your use. Have looked at making a stone guard that fits under the A-Frame back to the car but we do not have a very long draw bar so not sure it would work. Any ideas would be good.

Cheers Ros.

Ros I recently saw something around an 'eat-outside' coffee shop that might interest you. (Wyomi store in Kingston SE)
It was a steel frame that had sail track on top & bottom.
Tarp printed with coffee advert was simply slid in top & bottom track at the same time.
Then twi loose bits of sail track were slid down each side of the tarp & fixed into the steel side rails with self tapping screws.
Easy to replace, take out & wash etc etc.
No flapping etc.
Maybe for your use it could be padded slightly?

Ros,

Like Bruce,...... recently saw a Yank motor home and toad. The tarp was suspended horizontally between a spring loaded heavy duty tarp arrangement between both vehicles. The tarp laid sort of flat and used several spring to keep the tension between both. Tarp was close fitting and shaped to the front of the toad, 'V' shaped sort of thing so stones couldn't get thrown up on the toad and flat across the rear bumper of the bus/motor home. Thinking of doing the same myself. Wish I had saved the site now. I'll check but think I cleared it now. I thought at the time that looks better that a dam wall arrangement that most toads use.
