G'Day All,
How do you get along with medications when on the road for an extended period of time.

Re: Medications when travelling
I've never had a problem getting scripts filled while away. I do try to make sure I've got some to be filled though although having said that, I've just finished filling out my medical on MyGov site in case they find me in the gutter somewhere.

I found out if I go to the chemist & get two scripts filled for the same item, only one counts against your yearly tally... (some price though)
Watch the remote chemists though!!! I had 3 scripts on my Dr's piece of paper & only wanted one filled.......... yeah! They filled all 3 to grab their share.....
Some medication you may need to wait overnight for it. (in your MH ofcourse!!)

Re: Medications when travelling
Thanks Bruce good advice on the MyGov site. Or in you case floating belly up in the Murray.
I am thinking of the renewal scrips every six months type of thing. How do you go with this sort of script. Do you need to find a Dr. along the track every time. I am guessing this is the case.

My Doc supplies me with enough scripts for 12 months, half dated for 6 months time.
No problems with getting them from chemists [not the same brands].

Re: Medications when travelling
when we headed up to the gold fields in WA last year for 6 months, I asked the chemist to fill enough for the time we were away and he did. Also did it recently when I noticed I had some scripts that were going to expire so I asked them to fill them as I was going to a remote area. No problem.

Re: Medications when travelling
Hi, all.
My chemist will happily supply me with of Websterpacks - one week's meds on a popout sheet - three months at a time. I get the phone call about two weeks before running out and have them posted wherever we want. Should he be short of scripts the chemist gives my doctor a call.
Might have mentioned in past posts - keep the top of a Websterpack in your wallet - handy if something goes wrong, as the pack has an exact list of all your meds.

Re: Medications when travelling
Hopefully we will be going for a few years full time so might have to sweet talk my Dr. and see if he is happy enough to tell him from time to time by phone that we are still alive and ask him to post the scripts. Some Dr's are super cautious so no idea how we will get on. Maybe even a letter from him so we can show other Drs. or Chemists along the track might suffice .

We ask Dr for health report & list of medications currently being taken, just book into local Dr's Surgery where ever & ask for new scripts, never had a problem getting same & have a check up too.

Re: Medications when travelling
We have had a problem getting some of Shirley's Medications a few times, particularly in some of the smaller out of the way towns, some times have to wait to get the meds. delivered. Before last long trip we visited our doctor before hand and got a six months supply, had to give the chemist time to fill some of it, but saved a lot of problems. Both our Doctors are willing, (and do) send scripts to us or chemists on request.Shirley wrote:We ask Dr for health report & list of medications currently being taken, just book into local Dr's Surgery where ever & ask for new scripts, never had a problem getting same & have a check up too.
We had an instance a couple of years back, where one of SWMBO scripts ran out when we were in Longreach, couldn't get in to see a local doctor, got on the phone to her own doc at home he faxed a script to the chemist in Longreach, (he then had to post them the original) we had medication the same day.
We have found however that getting a large batch before departure is the easiest solution, other than storing half a tea chest of tablets,
