Bigpond 4G advanced modems problems..

Post by pelbo »

The new Advanced 4G modems (The grey one with the screen that shows various messages) are all playing up.

One of the main features is that they show how much data you have used and how much is left of your allowance. They also show how many days are left before you get a new allowance.

All of these modems have faulted and no longer show the data. Telstra was in denial about the problem for a while and a so called technician tried to fix my modem over the phone. This resulted in a modem that no longer works! I demanded they re-activate my old black 3G/4g modem until they solved the problem.

Telstra then told me that my 4G advanced modem was out of warranty...which was BS as it was only released onto the Australian Market 3 months ago - mine is 2 months old and the warranty is 12 months.

After arguing with staff and their supervisors, I had to make an official complaint. Now I am getting a replacement at no cost being sent to Adelaide River LPO.

Be aware that this problem with the new 4g Advanced modem is universal and don't take any BS from them. All modems failed across Australia in the same week - which means somebody has done a system 'upgrade' and stuffed the entire system from working correctly.

This is the modem I am referring to:

I find it hard to believe Telstra would be like that.  ........I'm having similar issues with data usage when it's not being used and signal quality, they think I'm wrong and there right. You have to hold their hand and prove to them there is a problem.Sixteen years ago I started reporting a noisy line on the house phone, excuses were given as faulty phones ,internal cabling etc ,etc. Finally I showed them the problem and they recabled the whole street last year, problem gone.(to my advantage I was a senior tech for thirty years) Peter.

Yes I know now - Unfortunately when tech support tried to 'fix' my modem, it died..... hence the new one coming.

What got to me was how much Telstra denied it was a problem at all - hence 'fix' for my modem.

I nearly bought one of those a couple of weeks ago... just because it was there... but, as my Telstra Elite is still working just fine - albeit with minimal signal at times - decided not to.

Instead I put a ZEC 2m marine antennae, with a swivel base, on the side of the van, along with an appropriate patch lead to the modem.

No problems now.
