A category for all those questions about equipment in our recreational vehicles that is for viewing TV and listening to music, Satellite & Vast reception. (dishes, antenna's, etc etc)
I also use a little app on my iPhone (Dishloc) to see where approximately where to point and if anything is in the way to stop getting a signal.

I had an Allden auto sat system on my Mobile home great in many repects but:
Wouldn't work above Mackay (Without Workshop adjustment), didn't like the wind, so i bought a ground mounted dish that pegs into the ground and survive really big wind storms if pegged down properly. Its main problem is storage.

Our recent experience with the Alden Automatic set up during our Tassie Travels was that, the satellite being so low above the horizon, there was nearly always a tree in the way. However, as an alternative to cutting trees down, my phone app SatFinder givers an excellent visual pointer so that I could park in a suitable position to "see" the satellite. At the same time it givers the Azimuth, Latitude and Longitude - useless information when you have an automatic setup.
Really happy Dot.
A lot of the river has cliffs along it & TV reception is a real big problem.
Can't imagine it being enjoyable without her watching Son's & Daughters or Mrs Brown..............

I would NOT buy the model with a built in hard drive again. I have found it uses more power as the hard drive runs all the time, where as the decoder that requires you to plug in a USB thumb drive doesn't use additional power.
My Alden unit has a 12v card in it replacing the 240v power supply - no point being 240v when the times you need to use Satellite is when you are away from civilization. My problem is that if the 12v water pump is used, the pulsing nature of the 12v draw to the pump drops the voltage to the Alden and causes the Alden re-boot. This will happen even when the two 100 amp batteries are fully charged. No doubt others have noticed the propensity of interior 12v lights to flicker when the water pump is used.
How do I maintain a steady 12v supply to the Alden?
