Some of you will remember a visit or two I did to my friends place up near Morgan, SA.
For many years they have been in the RESCUE program that looks after wild animals that nee rearing.
They mostly get little kangaroos (joeys) from all over SA. Nulla came from the Nullabor , etc.
Most start off as little balls of flesh without any hair/fur and become members of the extended family as they grow.
The latest animal was a baby wombat......... small enough to place in the palm of your hand.
It has now grown up a little and here is the latest photo of it.
The following is a little info about it. (cut & pasted)
Eva is growing! Almost 5kg now. She will have to go to Adelaide at 6kg, probably a month to 6 weeks time. Manfred, the old guy running the wombat program, wants them for a few days to have vet checks, do their paperwork and get them ready for Sydney Wildlife Zoo. Shirley and I took Eva and the other one, Nelly, to Roseworthy to have their micro chips put in. They didn't scan! So if they can't pick up any trace when she goes to Adelaide, they will have to put in another one. Poor girl. They are in such a huge needle, and the wombats have very tough skin.
Did I send you the picture of the wombat and Roger the cat? Manfred would have a fit if he saw it, he doesn't like native animals and domestic to mix. But they love each other. Roger lays there for ages and lets Eva crawl all over him. She rolls off, gets back on, sits on the cat, nuzzles him, and he nuzzles and licks her back!

Re: Wild animals
Always wanted a wombat as a pet when I was younger. Mary reckons she married one......
Great photo Bruce, marvelous how wild animals of different species bond together even domestic animals will bond with the wild. I think its to do with the need to have company and security.

Re: Wild animals
So cute, wild and domestic animals not to mix ??? why not, better to get along than to be like us humans, always fighting each other.
