Most things you become qualified in once you've stuffed it up......... at least twice!!
2 black fingernails qualifies you as a person qualified to drive nails home.
2 stuffed haircuts qualifies you as a barber.
2 black eyes qualifies you as a hen-pecked husband.
2 *#^@ 's in one night qualifies you as ??? (any suggestions Martin?)

You may recall that I would like to fit lithium, but have postponed the exercise until the AGM's are near death.

I would like the advantage of having enough battery power to run the aircon during the night.
Also recall that my solar real estate is minimal.

So my question is; would it be practical to install enough lithium, complete with the switch gear and accessories to run the aircon and make up what the minimal solar supply lacks with daytime generator (EU20i) charging if necessary?

I reckon so, get a dece t size charger, and couple of hours rinning could put 150ah back in, while you are running your air con, then you can top up again later in the afternoon.

As Martin has already posted, that is quite a good method of recharging the battery as the charge will remain at 100% of the chargers capacity till the battery is as close to full as you will need to carry you through to the next recharging period.
An option is to let the solar put in what it can, then around 2pm start the generator and run it till the 4 pm or 6 pm noise curfew (often 4pm as that's happy hr start time) to recharge the battery and take the air con load off the battery for that period. It would be a matter balancing how much battery capacity was required for overnight use with the battery capacity you have by say 12 o'clock and the hrly capability of the charger as to how many hrs generator run time was required, but you get the general idea.
Another possible method is if you planned to drive that day, use an inverter powered from the start battery to power the mains battery charger and recharge the house batteries in conjunction with the solar. Why an inverter and charger rather than a direct battery connection? That's a later topic so I'll leave the explanation till then
