I don't like to pay to dump either, but there can be a real cost to the owner of the Dump Point.

For example, the Port Augusta Footy Club has a 5000 litre holding tank connected to their CMCA/Kea subsidised Dump Point. The tanker came to pump out while we were there. so I asked the tanker driver what it would cost the Footy Club to have the 5000 litres emptied. About $200 to remove 5000 litres = $2 for 50 litres and that is for every litre of black, grey and water to flush the cassette too. A big rig with 300 litres = $12 cost to the Footy club.

They ask for a donation if using their DP

Cheers :D

Hi.
If the Council was to put it up for tender,
what do you think is a fair donation that winning
tender should charge?

Ron. :P

Just coasting along.

Take the Strath DP for example. Helen paid $5 to dump her 15lit cassette' Jo blo dumps his 300lits from his black tank for the same $5. Both take the same amount of water to rinse down. Is that fair? to me no way should I be subsidising the Jo blo dumper?? Can you see the look of the big dumpers if the price was done on litres  Might just ask the council this Q. Will they put a "crap meter" on the DP?

Ron, I would like to see some type of credit system eg show a receipt from a local business to the value of eg $100 and get a free dump  no receipt then $5 donation is ok with me.

If a cassette is emptied correctly there should be no need to rinse down.

The cost issue here relates to whether the dump is connected to the town sewer; if so, there should be no charge because, on average, RVérs are contributing to town wealth. If the dump has a tank that has to be evacuated then there is a real cost, so OK. It shouldn't be too hard to set up a coin operated system. Then again, what towns where a dump point will be installed don't have a sewage system? Not too many, I would think.

The CMCA has done a mighty job in organizing for many years the installation of dump points around Australia. I wish other organizations could carry their share of this burden.

I do not like having to pay to use a dump point people travel widely in Australia today and councils provide taps at parks for people having a picnic . They also provide toilet facilities for day trippers Tables and benches Boat Ramps. and the list could go on. Do they provide these for the exclusive use of the local ratepayers. I would suggest the answer is no. People travel vast distances today not like the 1940' s. I believe it a reciprocal arrangement. We share each others local government facilities for no charge so why should we be charged to use a dump point. The vast majority of travellers pay rates somewhere.

The frequent comment is that when travelling we do spend money. My experience is that we do spread our money about so most place would get a bite of the cherry.
