ADMIN NOTICE

Post by BruceS »

Threads in this topic should be aware of the following laws.

".......fixed wiring etc SHALL only be carried out by a licensed electrician who should issue a compliance certificate to the relevant Standards on completion & testing ''
---
"Unlicensed persons doing such work leave them selves open to prosecution for doing such work ''

Any particular questions in this Topic should be interpreted as a question to aquire general knowledge and not as getting instructions on how to actually do a 'job' by an unlicensed person.

If you can't or don't wish to answer a person's question please DO NOT repeat the above advice. Just don't answer it!!!

Further to this and you are a registered electrican quote you reg number....Norman

Hi Norman

My certificate is Q3588 issued 6/10 /1950 :)
AS I am retired, I do not / cannot have a CURRENT electrical 'CONTRACTOR's license

Many RETIRED electricians will be in the same position .

Maybe that fact should also be mentioned ie That people are NOT a practicing "tradesman" as things are changing all the time.. It was this continual utterings of "expert opinions" that got me fired up with the likes of a certain book flogger in other places.. I WAS a nurse I am NOT a nurse any more. I posted something on gas plumbing straight from the current info sent to us from the top of the line "expert" and even gave his name and where to contact him. Can;t do any more than that, let the people use their own brains if they have any that is.. Personally I don't think any info should be given out on forums which require an up to date and practicing tradesman to do in the first place.. IMHO

Hi Dot
Sometimes /Many times a practising tradesman may not be up to date Or may lack any real tech knowledge on the subjects:)
Electrics does cover a very WIDE field
Just ask your average electrician what AS/NZS 3001 or as 3109 & many more are about ;)
Many think the world begins & ends with the "Wiring Rules'",& even have problems interpreting THAT :(

Many are not more than a trained monkey doing the same thing over & over :(

My son, who is a licensed electrical contractor ,can tell many horror stories he has found with many licensed electricians :(

Most electrics ,even today ,are based on the same basic physical laws that Ohm, Faraday ,Voltaire etc discovered & laid down

Then SOME "retired "electrician have maintained their interests & STILL KNOW more than one who did just enough to get his license ,& has not gone any further :(

I agree, KNOWING & applying the most up to date "Standards ",where applicable ,is essential

So is keeping one self ,informed of developing technologies, that is a question of maintaining an interest . :D

Often the wheat can be sorted from the Chaff by the detailed answers, but sadly that does seem to get up some peoples' 'noses
as being too technical, yet it is the proof of the pudding :)

Know what you are saying, We got a gas fitter via the grey army to do the gas stuff in the bus.. Being totally green we accepted everything he did and said.. paid him the $900 and he gave us the piece of paper saying he had done the job etc.. When another fitter came to look at our wonderous work he was horrified that the other guy had signed off. None of the appliances were even in, the required vents were not there and so the list went on and on and on.. Yet this fella was duley reported to the appropiate authority , we never got our $$ back either  The current gas fitter is sooooooooo pedantic but when it comes to our safety we would rather have that than the other fellas work or lack of it.. If I am asked any medical questions and if not a simple thing I tell them I am not a DR so they should go and see the one with the qualifications.. Better off not to say a thing most of the time I reckon. :D

There are ways and means Jim.As with all things. For instance google comes to mind. They must have a register of sorts on a web site.Scan their ticket and post it. Anybody got any more suggestions..Not rude ones please......

I don't know about other states but in Qld the ESO (Electrical Safety Office), has a register of ALL Electricians licenced to carry out work in Qld and what level of licence they hold. A person must hold an Electrical Contractors licence to issue a certificate of compliance. I am sure the other states have a similar arrangement. One day we may get a national licencing system but I'm not holding my breath.
My licence No. is A33736, I have been a tradesman for 40 years and I still learn something new every day. Nobody can possibly know ALL the rules, regulations and applicable standards but they should know where to access the correct up to date information. Unfortunately some don't and that is when the rot starts.
Cheers
