Our bus is 2.5mt and that is why we had to put the Fiamma awning on because it doesn't have the arms down the side which would have seen us over the limit.

Not much more to do now Bernie? Guess you gotta put the other bits under the Toad now? Hand a couple of flags out each side of the Toad so you can see if it still wants to follow you!!!
When I had my big Bedford we had the back window painted white from inside. We scratched a small area of paint off so the navigator could peak out every so often. Now they got cameras to make it easier!!!

I am no expert but thought "removeable" items like awnings did not get added to the measured width.
Including mirrors and antennae.
Some of the mirrors you see on large vehicles are clearly bringing it over 2.5m.
Mirrors are the only exception.
As long as the awning doesn't start at the extreme rear or front of the vehicle then it's virtually impossible for the authorities to get an accurate measurement.
They can't take it to court saying the width was 'about' 2.75 mt!!!
Same with a car carrier........ virtually impossible for them to measure the height accurately. (been there, done that!)

The newer checking stations do the measurements with radar beams, over height or over width sends you to the manned section of the checking station, then the fun begins. Friends that build a big bus project got knocked off for over length both ends (bulbar and ring feeder) and over width due to the roll out awnings. Had to take them all off, resubmit the vehicle to have the defect cleared and then refit them. They are too scared to go anywhere now in case they get knocked off again. it's a crazy way build a bus in the first place in my books, better to stay inside the limits and live the easy life rather than having to talk your way through every checking point, but maybe that's just me, lost my spirit of adventure when it comes to challenging the authorities..... well, maybe not completely, depends if they are a self proclaimed authority

So does that mean just in NSW Terry at those weigh bridge places? Do they check your width every 12mths when you have the roadworthy done?
Our awning is within the legal limit down the bottom of the bus but when you get right up the top it is around 1/2'' too wide but the nice people at the inspection place said that is not an issue. (our bus is fatter at the bottom than what it is at the top)

Depends on the coach builder Steve.
Back to my "joy" spend about 4 hours removing the nudge bar on the SGV there was more holding that on then the body to the chassis.
Less then one hour to install the hitch and go stuff to the car....but in saying that I still have to put the front back on the vehicle.
With luck I may get to drive around my block with the car attached on the weekend.
Any one want to buy a nudge bar for a 07 Suzuki Grand Vitara .
