vast state transfer

Post by native pepper »

Finally bought a vast system from a lovely lady who is travelling down here in Tas last month, She only used it once because she discovered the 4x4 MH she bought already had an installed sat TV set up. Haven't registered it yet as no need to use it at the time and had good reception where I've been the last few weeks. Will be heading of in another week to NE Tas and there is no reception there, so hope to use it then.

When reading through the online Vast pages, it says you have to re-register your location when you transfer states. Was wondering what others with vast do about this requirement, is it because of the satellite beam set up, or just another government way of trying to keep tabs on peoples movements.

I have satellite internet at home and that relies upon fixed beams for different area's of the continent. If I was to register it for Victoria, as we are heading that way in the next couple of months, can I still use it in Tas. Or do I have to change it when I get to Vic and then again when entering NSW. Thanks

As far as I know it's only so the program times are right for your location.
There are basically only 2 "zones" ......... Far West & East. I think the West has one extra dedicated channel for 'local events'.
You can check here.

Make sure you select "Grid View" & then your VAST area. (then test other areas too?)
When you register, make sure you select "mobile". (traveler)

As Bruce has said register as a traveller, you will have to renew the registration every 6 months but that takes a couple of minutes online. Depending on how quick you are moving between states will dictate whether you are happy to stay registered in the area you are leaving. You will still have reception no matter where you are but local times and channels will change. It is simply a matter of a quick one line email to them informing them of the area you are in and they change it. I would set it up and register before you head off. It sometimes takes 30 minutes or so to start working after it has been off for a while. It may need to do some updates so don't panic. As long as you are on the satellite let it do its thing.

I set mine to Victoria when I first set it up and have never bothered to change it.
I just renew on line every 6 months.

You can still receive the ABC news and radio for all states at their local time.
The commercial news broadcasts are at various times but they are all there.

The only reason I can see to set it to a specific region is in the hope of seeing your preferred sport broadcasts.

Differing time zones is another pretty good reason Jim.

Never change my registered state, change time zones in machine as required.

Simple.

Don't forget when you send through your registration on line have the satellite tuned in and the vast box turned on

As you move around the country you'll need to change where you point the dish and the skew angle of the LNB.
Tassie Jim has written a very good program to help us work out the finer details.

I think the $5 donation is well worth it and it helps Jim escape from the Southern Isle.......... (for a little while!)
