Well you may have given him the idea you wanted the cheapest way to do it?
When I had the old Bedford & towed a trailer for the little car & I just used a light board on a long lead.
They are commonly used for trailer boats.

They would be a bit clumsy & difficult for you to use on a direct toad. Not impossible though......... is there a towbar on the car?

No suggestion was given as to the "cheapest" way to do it. They have the reducer there and G went to ask did they have room for the bus and when could they do the job? G isn't a cheap skate it is me that watches the costs.
Cooked their goose for the job now, will get it done at Mt Barker.

Taken from Vicroads A-Frame Towing Requirements:-

Lighting Requirements
The following lights must be fitted to the rear of the
towed vehicle and be operational whilst under tow;
• Two amber turn signal lamps.
• Two red stop lamps.
• Two white reverse lamps.
• One registration plate lamp at the rear of the towed
vehicle to illuminate the registration plate.
• Two red tail lamps.
These lamps may be the towed vehicles own lights or as
an alternative be arranged on a portable light bar
providing it is properly secured to the rear of the towed
vehicle.

Thanks Steve. G is going to see the mechanic tomorrow and get the name of someone he would recommend. It seemed that the local fella either didn't know what to do or he didn't want the job but as G said he has no confidence in the guy at all now. We would rather the car was wired rather than a board thing.

Its illegal Dot all existing lights on the back of your car have to work, not a board like they do with boats.
Go find a real auto electrician.

For what its worth the auto elect. here was dead set against that converter when I discussed it with him. He said there are all sorts of feed back problems associated with it and recommended against the idea. I am opting to fit separate 24v globes or LED's to the back of the toads lights and a separate supply from the bus.

Dirk the problem they have with the converters is not them Pasay,its if you have braking on your toad as well, if so they shouldn't connect the brake light.
What happens is if its all wired up plus your brake attachment when you hit the brakes two wires are activated to your brake light the one from the motorhome plus the cars own lighting. This was explained to me when I had mine done. They found out by experience .

That is not such a bad idea, the LED's are quite small these days, yet put out a good light, so they could be mounted into the reflector beside the original globe so bother circuits are then independent. Wiring to a 7 pin plug then becomes straight forward and anyone with a bit of soldering iron skill can do the job.

That's what I had in mind. Using Ford push in globe holders. Just got to chase up some LED's built on the globe type bases. Number plate light is just going to be a 24v LED, ebay type one with the plastic plate mounting. Mount it upside down so it doesn't interfere with the factory one. I am using a Blue Ox brake inertia unit so if the toads brake lights come on during braking it doesn't matter as the busses brakes will activate the 24v lights.

That explanation sounds reasonable and I could see it causing trouble. Not sure if on my toad, (Toyota Prado) brake lights operate in the unlock steering position or not. I know they do when the ignition is on but not on the 1st stage as far as I know.

All well within George's capabilities and you will know it was done right the first time..... because dottie will be supervising the job
