Bernie.
Careful reading of the advice from VicRoads and Dept of Transport (SA) reveals that securely fixing a board light bar to the rear of the towed vehicle is permissible. When it is legal in the State where the vehicle is registered, the vehicle cannot be prevented from operating in another State - Australian Constitution, "Free trade and intercourse between the States".

Our toad (Suzi Jimny) has Japanese taillights which have been deactivated for Oz registration. Bumper-mounted lights replace those moulded into the bodywork.

Our auto-electrician says its illegal to reactivate them.

Ordered this and G is going to do the job himself.
He spoke to the nice men at the appropriate depts about what we were allowed to do re the lights thing and what signs we may need.
Light vehicle sect Dept of Transport SA "Provided we have the right number of lights it doesn't matter whether it is the towed vehicles own lights or lights attached.
Rang the Heavy vehicles section they replied "Vehicle under tow" and "Do not overtake turning vehicle" signs not necessary because we are under 19 mets BUT we shall be putting the "Do Not Overtake Turning Vehicle" sign on the tow. Just to be sure to be sure.

The benefit of the "Do Not Overtake Turning Vehicle" sign is that you are permitted to make a turn from a position straddling two lanes and that other vehicles approaching from behind must give way to you. Conversely, you may not make a turn from a position straddling two lanes if you don't have that sign displayed. To carry that sign the vehicle must be over 7.5 meters in length.

After G had been with Elly dog for her last journey this morning he wend down the street to do some shopping. He was sitting in the car when a big bus pulled in to park in front of him and here is the result..  Had a wheel alignment done last week and I guess the scuff mark on the tyre means that will be out of wack now? Also scuffed the side mirror.
