Re: Confusing battery levels (readings)
From what has been written and the answers to everyone's questions;
I reckon the batteries are pretty close to full capacity, 12.7V ~ 95% SOC and by the morning they are about 12.5 80% SOC.... but that's just my guess.
http://www.aussiebatteries.com.au/deep- ... tery-info/ there is a chart here which tries to represent SOC and voltage.

Re: Confusing battery levels (readings)
I agree with you Jon but until a measurement is taken of exactly how many AHr are used until the battery reaches 12v or something not a lot is known.
I mean if they are getting 120AHr between 50% & 90% then that's OK but if they are only using 25AHr then there's a problem.
A complete series of 'tests' need to be done.
Full charge.
Connect a known load for a certain time.
Rest for an hour.
Measure Volts.
Reconnect again for a certain time.
Rest for an hour.
Measure volts.
etc, etc.
I think Dot & George have a good monitor but for some reason it isn't doing as it should.

Re: Confusing battery levels (readings)
The Victron will tell the story. Set up as 240Ah battery capacity and 50% SOC limit, the time to go and remaining capacity should both reach zero by the time the battery voltage drops to 12v, if the 12v is reached before the SOC reaches zero, then there really isn't 240Ah in those batteries, so the capacity needs to be revised downwards till all balances. Saves heaps of tests and records etc, the info is there at the touch of a button, even how many times the battery has cycled.

Re: Confusing battery levels (readings)
Bruce, agree.
You'll notice I wrote capacity and not 240ah capacity.
Like Terry said, they may be stuffed and only have 120AH capacity.
An SOC can only be truly known when you know the true capacity of the battery, and in lead based batteries, the capacity decays with each cycle.
