Tyre Temperatures

Post by SteveW »

An interesting observation today. Driving north west on the Murray Valley Highway. Temperature about 16 degrees. Full late morning sun on the right side of the vehicle and toad. Stopped near Kerang to chuck out all the fruit at a Fruit Fly point (Didn't expect that until the SA border).

Measured the temperature of the tyres. All left side tyres - approximately 18 degrees. All right side tyres - approximately 36 degrees. Shows what full sun on black rubber can do, despite a cooling wind.

Steve, That is an interesting observation. I don't suppose that you have an idea which direction the wind was coming from do you??

Could have been coming from Strath, Chuck and I went to check out the new dump point at Langhorne creek.

I assume that you have a TPMS or some such.

I find it interesting to look at the temperatures first thing in the morning before we drive off.

Can be a good warning if the conditions are icy.

Also interesting to watch thee pressures as you drive on the tyredog.
The pressures change as you warm the tyres up and also as the sun moves from one side of the bus to the other.
Also the inside tyres on my bus get hotter than the outers, must be more wind on the outside.
