Is Science Fiction merely prophecy?

Post by T1 Terry »

Thought I might start a different thread within this topic, same rules, nothing is off topic, thrown an idea up and see where it goes ;)
Here is the first one:
Anyone remember the Star Trek movie about them travelling back through time to get a whale? Scottie gives the engineer the formula for clear armour plate strength glass....? Complete SiFi nonsense right??? Check this out http://www.popsci.com.au/tech/military/ ... lay,403201  :ugeek:

On a similar level of thought, the only thing that stops the human brain from building something is that no-one has thought of it yet. My dad used to say that he had seen 2 world wars , the invention of the motor car and aeroplane. Even saw space travel and man land on the moon. You can also include Dick Tracy talking into his watch and the development of mobile communications. He often wondered where it would all end. He never did quite cotton on to the internet though.

You mean talk without their teeth in

I remember seeing a show about the number of things Star Trek actually caused to become reality. One of them was the electronic note pad the orderlies carried and the officer would scribble a signature of verification for what ever.... the electric note pad was built as a result of that idea, by a young (Japanese I think it was) computer student as a project as he was fascinated in the concept. Now we think nothing of signing the hand held device the courier carriers to verify we received the parcel... al as a result of a Star Trek prop.
I'm still waiting for the insignia above the left breast that you get to tap and say "beam me up Scottie" after you've said something really stupid and the ground won't open up to swallow you, to simply turn into scattered light and reappear some where else where they didn't know you'd just made a complete fool of yourself would be an extremely handy gadget

I am still waiting for my flying car like the Jetsons had! Can you imagine Sydney traffics snarls with everyone darting around up in the air? All that would be left on the roads would be the bloody big trucks and us caravanners!

 They would just be coming at you from both sides and front and back, they could also come from above down and below up as well. Apparently the hover board is now a reality... and if I can just organise Margaret's credit card to buy me my surprise birthday present I should have either maimed myself or look really trick riding it around at the next get together
