I want to set up a light bar on the bus to wire it up do I need a relay or just wire it to the high beam light circuit like find the write wire on the so when I turn on high beam the light bar works

Much better to put a relay inline as it will stop your high beams going dim

Use the high beam to trigger the relay

Wayne I just put 2 LED light bars on the front of the boat.
Mine were on special and included all wiring, relay, fuse block and dash switch.

When I got mine there was also a 10% off from Ebay.
Even they they say 120W it only consumes about 60w by my testing meter.

I have just ordered some of the single light bars to go under VP's awnings, this is the style that is in an aluminium channel, 1 mtr long 24 v 8.6 US over there (china), one under each awning (7) should see VP lit up like a christmas tree.

I believe you will also have to wire in a dash switch for legal reasons.

And don't they have to be wired through the high beam as well, so your spotties (or lightbars) go off when you drop high beam ?

Wayne, as others have said the light bar can only legally be on when the high beams are on and must dip when they do.
I'd imagine your bus is wired pretty simply so the easiest way is to use a relay to supply power to the light bar.
The relay can be activated by the power going to one high beam globe, just tap into it near the headlight when you work out which wire it is.
Run the wire from the high beam headlight inside through a switch (which is a legal requirement) and back out to the relay to activate it.

The light bar or driving lights must have a method of turning them off separate to the high beam, but must turn on only when the high beam is on. The legal reason, high beam is allowable within a built up area where visibility is poor, but driving lights and light bars are not legal for use within a built up area at any time. now comes the tricky part, the driving lights or light bar must not come on when the high beam flash is used, again, because under certain circumstances a high beam flash is legal within a built up area, but driving lights and light bars are not, nor are they legal to be used as a warning device outside a built up area. The only way I found around this rather obscure rule was a latching relay that required a momentary contact button to activate the driving lights or light bar that was powered by the high beam circuit, high beam off and the latching relay drops out and requires another press of the momentary contact button to latch the relay again.

So, my question, who has a light bar, what output.... bad pun I know, and would you get a brighter one if it were available or a not so bright one next time?
