Hi there you two. We loved Mt Augustus & hope that you get to see the top as there was total cloud cover when we were there & we were there 2 extra nights as all exit roads were closed after 5ml rain!. Did a drive right around the base. Friends of ours got to the top with sleeping bags & he asked her if she wanted to become a member of the "mile high club". The offer was declined.

Re: Dot & Georges .
We are back at Gascoyne Junction in our spot by the river listening to the sound of crickets, a balmy breeze is blowing and the temp of 26 deg. Totally and utterly buggered after cleaning the bus out again of all the bull dust and the poor car once again is also a few inches deep inside also with the BD, gaffer tape is a good thing but the BD beats everything. Took us 6 hrs to do the 300ks, what with the corrugations, floodway's, grids, dips and crests and idiot 4x4 ignorant morons
Had to stop as they flew past as the dust was so thick one could not see. It is a magical place the big rock but one for the fitter ones and serious photographers. Need a shower and a good sleep . Learnt one thing after the trip in and the 12 loads of washing EVERYTHING, take plenty of large plastic bags to put your stuff in. The cmca ones we had came in handy... One thing we did notice was there were only one or two bush roses all the way. Does that mean the filthy mongrels don't venture too far off the black top??

Hi Dottie & George, best take the air filters out and clean them, both bus and car, check the tappet cover beater pipe and any other breathers for dust build up as well as the mix of bull dust and oil film will set like rock and completely block the breathers. I have stripped down engines that have been worked for long periods in the bulldust and found the bearing failure due to the level of bulldust build up in the sump finally blocked the oil pick up. The bores were always polished to a mirror finish as was the inside of the turbo compressor turbine housing.

Re: Dot & Georges .
Well the end of the total inside car & bus has been done no more till we get home. G took the car down to the council maintenance dept and asked if he could use their compressor to blow out the BD from in out and under the car so he gave them a donation to the rfds. The bus motor will have to wait till we get to Carnarvon in a few days time. This trip was one experience and it was well worth the effort of getting here and also the "cleaning one as well" I would say to get the best out of going there would be for the fit and photographer but we managed to do and see quite a bit. I was rather apprehensive of some of the "trails" as it is mostly rocks and I did twist my ankle when I slipped so not wanting to stuff the back up it was up to G to do the mountain climbing but he did borrow the local masonic mascot for the final leg to the top he he
The whole rock is just rocks upon rocks and amazing how much vegetation is actually on it. In the many gorges there are the most beautiful water ponds and the white trees are loaded with nesting budgies, finches and galahs etc Not the best place for an asthmatic though. The cp was pretty ok but the managers left an awful lot to be desired with their public relations. Told by email there was internet and phone coverage but when got there you could use their private email for a fee and the ph was a phone box that only took phone cards and they had none?? the sprinklers were on all day and night which meant you could not take advantage of the grassed areas that you were parked next to?? The power was off one morning so G does the fuse and plug check but when he asked the next van if their power was off he said "Oh yes it will be off for a few hrs" nice to be told we thought
So I still kept on doing the washing through the inverter
We got our $$ worth just from the water and power I made sure we used $6 a load of washing so I did 9 or so in the bus.. The manager also asked not to use too much power but when we went into their office hello there was a monster air con going so bugger it I thought we paid for power so I is gunna use what power we need to be comfy, so the elect element on the stove and the microwave went when cooking was to be done. I hate cp's. BUT one good thing was there was a good space between sites so a tick for that. The power and water got me a tad worried as they were on the same pole and the tap leaked continually zap I thought
Is that safe? Oh wise ones!! all in all glad we came. but once is enough

Well Dot, I'm glad that you have returned to internet land. I was a bit worried that you had wandered off and found somewhere that you liked so much you bought the joint.
Cheers
