Re: Lithium Batteries, who has them?
I contacted Terry back in July 2014 with regards to fitting Lithiums' and after a month of emailing and phone conversations I was having trouble absorbing it all and advised Terry that I would hold off for a while. This in NO way was anything to do with Terry because at the same time I was involved with a New Government Aged Care Implementation dealing with my Mum and Dad which in itself was a Nightmare at the time.
After that Drama finalized in October I ordered a 8 x 100Ah for a 200Ah Van Battery and 4 x 100Ah for 100Ah Aux Battery in the Ute all cells strapped etc from Drive By Nature - Kuttabul Qld and fitted with a Junsi Cell Loggers and the already fitted 40 Amp Van and 20 Amp Ute Plasmatronic Solar Regs with No.4 Program set for the Lithium profile(as Advised by Terry). After setting off in Mid-November we called in to Kuttabul and fitted another 200Ah in the Van with another Junsi to this pack which is in Parallel with the other 200Ah but can be isolated or run either separately in case of any future problems.
After first previously reading everything I could find of Terrys' on every Forum, then viewing Brians Hino at Greens Lake in Dec 2014 and Terrys' HELP and ADVICE in July 2014 (via emails and Phone conversations) we took the PLUNGE and have never Regretted one minute of the PARADIGM CHANGE to a Whole New Idea of Self Sufficient Mobile Battery Power.
I hope to one day call in on our way along the SE Coast of NSW and visit Terry to personally thank him for his help and maybe more advice. Since leaving Cairns in Mid-Nov 2014 we have only had to use the Honda EU20 3 times and that was only because of multiple days of heavy weather and being stationary at the time, in all 20 hrs of run time. I can also connect the 350 watts of Solar on the Ute with the 100Ah Lithium through the ABR DC-DC Charger to Boost the Van Batteries even quicker when Stationary and when travelling I find the 30 Amp DC-DC ABR Sidewinder Charger can cope with a few hours of Charging if needed in Bad Weather otherwise the 610 watts of Solar works great in good to fair weather. In good weather the batteries are Fully Charged by Noon and Fair weather by 1pm to 3pm with the Junsis' playing a Merry Tune when the Alarms let us know that they are FULL.
I have a mate in Cairns in Marine Mechanical and Electrical who said to me at the time that Lithiums' were too unreliable at this time for public use. So every day when these SO CALLED Unreliable batteries achieve Full Charge after running either the 800 watt Hot water element 1/2 to 1 hr depending on temp, 800 watt Toaster, both Laptops all day and/or TV for 6 Hrs, Induction Cooktop for Breakfast/Dinner, Electric Blankets O/Night when required, all lighting, pump and 220 litre Waeco Fridge/Freezer and the Ute Battery runs a 60 litre Trailblaza 24/7 ie the Junsis' Alarms Beeping in Unison or Alternately with each other I look at the Missus and either her or me will say "BUGGER" those Batteries don't work do they.
So that about sums it all up, we are very impressed with our outlay for Fulltime Travelling as we are at this time in WA for a few years.
