Hi Keith, sorry I couldn't talk last night, busy as a one armed wall paper hanger at the moment. It is worth asking 2 questions, did they number the injectors so they went back into the same cyls and was it the same cyl that grabbed a piston this time. This will tell you if it is an injector jamming open or a wiring/computer problem. It appears neither of these 2 "professional" repairers diagnosed the problem correctly, they only saw the symptoms. If it does come down to an injector or wiring problem then the injector people will be responsible as they worked on that part and as a result the first engine failure occurred. If it is a computer problem...... shitte, who will carry the can for that one? If it is only a single cyl again then it will rule out a computer sensor problem such as a coolant temp sensor (different to the temp gauge one) causing the dramas as all cyls would be effected.
Good luck with it Keith but at least you have a cause for the first failure now that is not a pre existing engine fault.
As far as the trip over this side of the country, I think I'd be getting legal people to apply pressure for a rental motorhome, then fly over and rent a unit here

Feel for you Tanks.
Bloody computer controlled engines are way too complicated for me, even my Suzuki goes into "limp home mode" when it feels like it, in our legislators rush for cleaner emissions I feel we have missed the target somehow.
With the Suzy for instance, when a light comes on telling me the Diesel Particulate Filter needs regenerating (burning off the soot) I have to take it for an unscheduled, unwanted 80 k drive to fix it, where is the sense in that.
I hope you get some resolution to this, as T1 has remarked above, it seems the cause is still there, I would be worried about the people investigating the cause also being the people who are trying to cover their backs, but no other way around it I guess.

"tanks" here---
T-1: This is what thay are telling me:-
Hope you are well, your vehicle is here which we collected from yourself on the 19/10/2015

We carried out necessary checks to the coolant system which concerned you and the overheating the vehicle did not use any coolant and did not overheat.

However the vehicle did have a miss but went away this concerned myself and we sent the injectors away to united fuel injection because we could see with our easy Scanner no 2 cylinder was out of spec when it got hot.

United’s sent the injectors back and all was apparently well. However I wasn’t totally confident and we swapped number 1 and 2 injectors around everything seemed fine until our BDM was delivering the vehicle back to you on a hill fully loaded the oil light came on and vehicle cut out.

We got the vehicle towed back and upon inspection we found that the vehicle was breathing very heavy and no 1 cylinder compression was low.

We have taken the injectors out and R moore and son and son are going to give me a independent report and that’s where we are at.

I will be in touch soon when I find out exactly what has happened.

Kind regards.

"tanks" here--continued drama:-

Hi Keith when I refer to the vehicle being fully loaded I mean the vehicle is working.

The oil light come on the vehicle because there was a substantial oil leak but we can’t seem to find it, I think it came from the oil filler neck but will know more when we drive again unfortunately we can’t until we get the injectors back.

Regards

"tanks" here-- I sent this to Skippers Trucks:-
Thanks Chris,
I feel that it is unusual that the oil light would come on with just a 2 litre drop in the oil level, as this is a small percentage of the total sump capacity.

Could you please have your mechanic verify which oil light was showing –the low engine oil pressure light, or the low engine oil level light.
(refer to Iveco Daily manual page13, item 9 & 10.

If the light indicated a low engine oil pressure, I would not expect this to occur with a fully reconditioned engine that had only been driven a distance of 373 km since being rebuilt by your workshop. [speedo now reading 142,310 km ).

I am told that all of this points back to the possible/probable faulty injectors which United Fuel Injection reconditioned, as the symptoms point to a overfuel situation of one or more injectors causing a piston meltdown and subsequent damage to the engine.

In any case where has the 2 ltrs of oil gone ?. I do hope that the missing oil has not gone into the clutch, as happened last time the engine failed when the bearings and oil seals were damaged.

Keith Morris.

This ordeal is just disgusting. Tanks would the RAA people (legal section) be of assistance to you with this crap?? OR get a couple of big Maori fellas (mechanics of course) and get them to watch every little thing those fools are doing.. I would also be asking if the mechanic they are using is qualified and when did he get his ticket? NO apprentices are allowed near my vehicles.

Well, at least Skippers trucks will be backing your faulty injector claim now. if the no2 cyl showed out of spec performance when hot it appears the injector fails when at operating temp, hard to duplicate on a test bench.
Just as well you didn't choose the second hand motor option, I don't think Skipper's truck can do the engine rebuild as insurance would call it rework and they don't cover that, so either a new or factory exchange engine I'm guessing.... hopefully with a set of brand new injectors.
