Terry, are you flooded yet?
Our block is submerged at the lakeside, but fortunately our house is quite a way up from the water, so we are really secure. But the amount of water falling is enough to up Sydney harbour over and over. We have had over 3 inches just today. It has been non stop solid rain for the last 10 hours. It isn't fair that we are getting an overload and so many parts of this country are screaming for some rain.

Dungog is getting another drenching, 180mm since 9am yesterday, low level flooding in town but I don't think it got into any houses. Williams river peaked just under the bridge and has fallen but now steady a metre below it. Downstream might get a bit wet as the peak travels down and the Hunter is already rising.

For people in parts of the
Mid North Coast and
Hunter Forecast Districts.

Issued at 5:11 am Wednesday, 6 January 2016.

HEAVY RAIN FOR HUNTER AND MID NORTH COAST

SYNOPTIC SITUATION:
A low pressure system near Port Stephens is slow moving, and is expected to bring further heavy rain and associated flash flooding to eastern parts of the Hunter district this morning. The low is expected to move slowly to the northeast during this afternoon with the heavy rain extending to southern parts of the Mid North Coast, before an easing later in the day and evening. Between 9am Tuesday and midnight, 254 mm of rain fell at Bungwahl near Bulahdelah, including 80 mm in the hour to 7pm. Further localised very heavy falls and associated dangerous flash flooding remain possible in the Lower Hunter this morning.
At 4am heavy rain was falling in the Newcastle area, with several stations reporting 80 to 100 mm in the preceding six hours. With heavy rain evident on radar approaching Newcastle from the east, there remains the possibility of a further increase in rainfall intensity in Newcastle this morning leading to dangerous flash flooding.

HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Mid North Coast and Hunter districts (including the Central Coast) today, between Gosford and Port Macquarie, with rainfall totals of 100 to 200 mm expected at some locations. An easing trend is expected later in the day and evening.

DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 65 km/h with gusts of about 90 km/h are possible along the coastal fringe of the Hunter district this morning, extending to the Mid North Coast this afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford, Maitland, Nelson Bay, Raymond Terrace, Wallsend, Toronto, Morisset, Wyong, The Entrance, Taree and Dungog.

Rain reports from 9am Tuesday to 4am Wednesday include:
Bungwahl 255 mm
Upper Chichester (near Barrington Tops) 222 mm
Dungog 169 mm
Macquarie College 200 mm, Wallsend 194 mm, Merewether 191 mm (Newcastle area)
Williamtown Airport 186 mm
Tocal 157 mm
Maitland 155 mm

At the time of issue, flood warnings were current for Wollombi Brook, and the Colo, Myall, and Paterson and Williams Rivers.

Dangerous surf conditions are expected fot the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Sydney today and Thursday.

Stay safe everyone in those wet areas!
Us folk over to the West (SA) have forgotten what a decent shower of rain looks like.
Had to wash all the ash & dust off the top deck/solar panels on the boat since no rain to wash it off!!

It is just at the annoying level here Shirley, the lake is still a few streets away yet  Just can't get anything done outside.... and no sun means no solar hot water so I've spend today rigging some chargers to try and sort the problem. Unfortunately smart chargers are smart enough to know the difference between a hot water element and a battery ggrrr..... No sun also means the problem with the Kombi battery has resurfaced, no solar panel recharging it goes flat over night double gggrrrrr.... hate working in the rain. Wanna go back to Mannum where it doesn't rain 8 days out of 7, well and truly over rain I can tell ya
