Hi, all.
Jim - what supplies the power point?
BruceS - Mrs shonky is trying her best to find a cutting from a square sponge bush to graft to a coconut palm, but as you know these things take time.

Re: Inverter giving grief
so does mine..... but if I try to power it via the inverter off the same battery I am trying to charge, the circuit breaker goes ping!Jim wrote:My charger runs off a m/h power point.jon_d wrote:he plugged it into the M/H power point.

Hi, all
BruceS - so they "mailed " the new inverter via Tole Ipac, who are in opposition to the P.O. Had a 14km drive to their depot. Anyway, fitted it in 5 minutes flat, can't beat practice. Strange no prepaid satchel was included. Now we all know their customer service is fine, with very few hiccups but The Doghouse is using one inverter a year. Do any others have problems?

Re: Inverter giving grief
Good show!
Refresh my mind a bit Bruce? How many watt is the new one & roughly what do you think the maximum load would be?
A few obvious comments .... plenty of air circulation to/from it?
If it's a smallish one I reckon it's better NOT to earth the inverter body to your vehicle body/chassis.
Fingers crossed you can toast the Easter buns with this one!

Re: Inverter giving grief
I'd seriously look at heat recirculation as the problem, this is the number 1 killer of any transistor as you well know. Either vent the cold air in or the hot air out, or ideally both of the above. These thing can produce quite a bit of heat, 20% of the rated capacity multiplied by the voltage is watts converted to heat and this needs to be removed from the area where the inverter lives
A person may fail many times, they only become a failure when they blame someone else John Burrows

Re: Inverter giving grief
What's the load again?
I wonder if the Power Factor is causing it to die? (ie, to inductive or to capacitive which is shifting the current and voltage phases.)

Re: Inverter giving grief
Hi, all
The inverter's 600w and is used for the iMac - 6 amps, the washing machine - 18amps, and the power drill which I think is 280w. These are not used simultaneously. While there's plenty of space around it I'll relocate it elsewhere and see how I go. Might even run a small fan off it.

Re: Inverter giving grief
the washing machine : Some washing machines have a bad power factor and thats why they won't run on generators.
