No wastegate, big problem is gear ratios, at 2300rpm in 5th, 95kph. In 4th 68kph so turbo is needed to remain in 5th for longer otherwise I loose all momentum and end up in 3rd then 2nd.

We fed LPG into the intake and full boost was available, well 12 lb anyway and may have climbed higher given enough time under load. Seems strange that you now have black smoke but only 5 lbs boost, it could be an exhaust restriction but I'm leaning more towards not enough exhaust pressure to spin up the turbo properly... either not enough revs or cam/pump timing causing a lower exhaust temp where the LPG boosted the exhaust temp allowing the turbo to spin up. In the long run it may still have been a better option to fit up LPG and drop the diesel back till there was very little black smoke. Finding places that the bus will fit under next to the LPG bowser is the tricky part, so a big tank to limit the number of refills required.

Hi Terry,

The injector pump timing is spot on at 11 degrees btdc as specified. My next step is to remove/disconnect the muffler and see what happens.

The thing is, I don't know if the muffler is straight through or baffled.

I'll put my money on the spark arrestor.... (muffler)
Remember most tractors have a facility to undo & remove the soot? All you need are two expansion chambers to reduce the noise to a respectable level without any restriction or baffles to buildup & block the passage.
Wash it out with a firehose & let it dry before you fire it up especially if aimed at the clothesline on washing day!
You lack of gears, or more to the point, is why I changed my Benz truck over to a 10 speed road ranger. But at our ages it isn't a good idea unless you want a bung shoulder!!! Most turbo,s are next to useless once revs drop off the boil.
You sound like you need a bigger donk with more low down grunt.

Hi George, yes still very happy with the awning and the remote is still working well after 3 1/2 plus years of constant use. Do you still have the contact number and address I sent you ? I've misplaced (lost) all the information I had, old age is bloody pathetic. Hope you get the turbo sorted out. Regards Steve...
