Terry, please just keep working and Marg and I will take care of keeping the distillers in work and besides we dont waste River Murray water as we are still on Sydney water with all its nasties.

Bruce, my mother insisted on her chivas regal whisky, a glass per day minimum right up to month before she died. In her will, she insisted that we didn't attend he cremation, just in case the whole lot exploded with the excess alcohol!BruceS wrote:In jest ............

I consider there is a huge difference between needing a drink on a regular basis and just wanting to share a drink with mates occasionally.

Re: Need a good stiff drink
Back today after a week or so visiting Stanthorpe and Tenterfield wineries. Poor old Suzy barely made it up the trailer ramps with all the glass clinking inside.
Finished off with a couple of nights at Brunswick Heads (grew up around here) main purpose was to visit Fleet, I have been in a lot of restaurants around the world but this is the best so far, only 14 seats so fantastic service to match the food. In the top 50 of course, both of places.
Found some obscure grape varieties at one winery, Durif and Barbera in particular I like.
Also had lunch at Paper Daisy in Cabarita.
Now it's back on the diet after all this excess !!!

Re: Need a good stiff drink
Durif is mostly found in the Rutherglen and Glenrowan areas, Barbera in the King Valley region, both in the Victorian wine regions, they seem to like the cold so no idea how they fair up that way. There is a great debate between Rutherglen and Glenrowan as to who makes the better Durif, I still think the very best comes from Warrabilla Winery 30 something km out of Rutherglen, but I'm open to a round table tasting competition to sort out the winner
Tom (tomcarm) swears by the Glenrowan offering so we will have to arrange a get together of the wine tasters

I'll let Tom test them first so he can let me know just how well the new world is doing
The Barbera I have taken a liking to is from an organic winery in the king Valley that uses no preservatives either, there is a definite taste difference for the better.

Hey Busman, while in Stanthorpe, did you visit the big apple shop? They do a chocolate port that is the best, most smoothest after dinner drink. I could just drink it every night.

Re: Need a good stiff drink
I think we did but was not what we were looking for so left. If that is the one opposite Vincencioes (spelling?) then yes, otherwise no.
I did buy a lovely fortified shiraz from the heritage winery, but sadly it did not last the journey home.
Off to GI in a week for Minerama so will be passing through again, maybe then............
