One to avoid

Post by Busman »

We stopped at Scone caravan park yesterday, too tired of driving, big rig ok ? Sure no problem.

I always get worried when they say that

Threaded VP and trailer through the eye of about 17 needles to get to a surprisingly large. level site, amenities just ok, mostly permanents and people down on their luck to be kind.

Oh well, only for a night or so, it is amazing how quickly you get used to the trucks passing on the NE Hwy about 60 mtrs to the south, mostly cancelled out by the coal trains rattling by every 20 minutes, only 25 mtrs to the north. !!!

And of course they have to blow their horn at the level crossing 100 mtrs to the east. TWICE !. Dunno why, if there is someone on the line they will be stopping kilometres down the track to scrape them off

The loaded ones (10,000 tonnes) are quieter than the empties (consolation prize ?)

You probably passed through Wallabadah where you could have stayed for a small donation and taken in a little history of the First Fleet.

What do these cp's consider "big rigs"?

I remember booking into a CP and in doing so advised them that the MH was 11.5 metres. They said, no problem. When I got there they said gee it's big, it won't fit on the site allocated, to which I responded, the length of a metre hasn't altered and neither has the length of my MH.

When we were stuck in Gilgandra with some broken wheel studs we looked for a CP, one had a Big Rigs welcome out the front, when we pulled up he pooped himself ran across the road yelling too big, too big.
We used the next one, next day he had the big rigs sign laying down, day after was up again, what a wanker.

When contacting anywhere checking for negotiable room to drive I always add a mtr and tell them to keep in mind that it doesn't bend in the middle, it is a rigid vehicle not a car and caravan.

Yeah but they do not take into account all the trees they have planted over the years etc, I trimmed one side of a few on the way in here.

Anyway all is forgiven, one of the best regional restuarants we have come across is The Cottage in Scone, had to wait for a table on a Tuesday night, gives you some idea.

lets see what Singleton does, last time I was here was for rookie training, and none of us were interested in fine dining after being locked up for 2 months I can tell you !!

It's a shame that Badgers reports are wiped after a few years. I made the exact observation of that park a few years ago. We were sure the trains were going to get into bed with us, it was that loud.
Singleton showgrounds, right on highway, Hope you get some sleep.
