Dumped Kindle E-reader, now ... ?

Post by Chuck »

Advised a few weeks back that Catriana's E-reader had died & bought a new one from Amazon.

Well, that one was supposed to have free 3G & Wireless but it simply wouldn't connect to any 3G signal here so after 5 1/2 hours on the pooter to them over there & being passed form one person to another they decided there was a problem with the new one & asked us to return it & they would send us another to replace it.

Yep, no problems with the return/replacement but still problems with the 2nd replacement also failing to connect to 3G. They insisted that we must be in an area where there was no 3G reception.

Yeah, right, so how come my old DX model e-reader is currently connected to 3G & our 2 mobile phones are also connected to 3G & the computer I'm currently talking to 'you' on is connected to 3G huh?

Ahh... They suggested there may be a problem with that device also, so asked us to return it.

Did so & received notification yesterday that the e device had been received & a refund issued.

So. Now we are looking for a tablet thingy that will take photo's & also able to download kindle books or similar. Have no experience with these tablet doodads so your thoughts & suggestions would be appreciated.

We read constantly on the phone. Just download the Amazon app, log in and away you go. While we both have large screen phones, we previously used normal sized phones. You will quickly get used to reading on the phone. Advantages are; book is always in your pocket and it is light and easily used one handed. You have a lit screen that I reduce the brightness of to keep it comfortable.

We have the ipad and samsung equivalent, both of which, have the Kindle app. Only difference is that you connect via either your mobile wireless, or link to your phone to download books. Haven't used out Kindles for ages - too clunky.

I also use an iPad. It is cellular and wifi but I don't have a SIM card for it. I use my iPhone as a hotspot for Internet. The only reason for getting the cellular version is the GPS inclusion. I don't buy books but download books from the Brisbane City Library, of which I am a member. Works for me.

I have a Kindle Fire which has a colour screen and is a sort-of functionally cut-down 7" iPad copy, using the "other" operating system.
Wifi only... which is a pain in the (_._)...
It has one camera lens - facing the reader... Great if all you want is Selfies!
Never used the camera, local phone connection to thin for Skyping.
Shoulda waited & saved more $$$ for a real iPad - with 3G or 4G as well as Wifi.
As well as the Kindle full of e-books, I have Booktopia on my iPhone, and often read on that. Very convenient! Screen size is OK, 'coz I hafta wear reading glasses anyway.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Margaret bought a Surface Pro and a Samsung S5? phone, requires surgery to remove them from her hands. The Surface pro is a bit larger but full Windows, not cut down versions or Android or that fruit stuff, incredibly fast due to the solid state drive and has become the navman with wiki camps open when needed, the music source via Bluetooth and book.... when not playing solitaire of course  How anyone so computer smart can sit there for hrs playing solitaire is beyond my comprehension

Terry, never ask why, you are getting some peace and be grateful.
I use solitaire to give my brain some easy workout time. I do the games and sort through the problems of the day at the same time. It is a form of stimulation/relaxation like any stupidly mind numbing ball game.
