Passwords...

Post by Chuck »

I'm always forgetting my password/s on the computer...

So I've changed it to 'incorrect'.

That way, when I log on with the wrong password the computer will tell me...

"Your password is incorrect."

You would be surprised the number of Businesses I used to go to with my work and they had a secret password of "password"

Another well known Australian wide company had a company wide login with "letmein"

Another software package I used to support and later would scavenge the data from and use to create our new system spelt their company name back to front , and this was on all their customers. Another still put in all the old employees and their passwords. I would expect my username and password would still to be included in all their new installs.

So I would not be surprised at any passwords.

When an IT manager I used to have several rules on passwords and would set up regimes where they had to be changed at intervals and had to conform to a set rule.

If any one forgot to log off when leaving the plant their profile was locked and they had to request to be re admitted and their password length was increased by one character and later it was given tighter control such as certain alpha and numeric or special characters in a set position. One user got to 16 characters with a very complex rule. He finally learnt to log off. He was the payroll manager
