Re: Towing
Not sure now most are front wheel drive but we USED to hook the back ones around the axle housing & the front through the wishbones or anywhere as close to the wheel as we could.
They never move on a truck because you have the truck tyres, the truck suspension & the same on the cars.
In 1st gear & hard on handbrake & sitting on stretch mesh .........
Some wheels also sitting in 'buckets'.

Re: Towing
We use 2 chains on each corner in the enclosed trailer, leave car in neutral and hand brake on, no probs no matter how bad the jump ups are

Re: Towing
A compliance plate to approve the absence of a fitting?BernieQ wrote:In Qld Ray if you remove the rear seats you need a compliance plate saying so .
And also need the rear of the car secured .
Bernie .

I could understand it if you were adding a seat...

Do I need a compliance certificate to say I don't have a bulldozer blade as well?
Regards & God bless,

Re: Towing
Interesting how this is one country and each state seems to be another little country.
I had a run in with local boys a few years back and the little upstart was quite annoying and his customer focus skills were quite lacking , its seems that 25 yrs in the job didn't a carry lot of wait either.
So I pointed out to him if i was his boss and become aware of his attitude I would kick his arse into next week and That I was doing his job while he was still playing with the stuff in his nappies. Still got I a ticket but I enjoyed the chat.
Anyway on car carriers a few years ago I was carting car around for Avis and we used one strap around town but believe the correct ratio was one strap on front and rear diagonal around town and on the open road/country areas we used all 4. When carting Barbagellos stuff it was all 4 as well ( insurance thing) who wants to lose a $200,000 Jag or Range rover.
Anyway think I'll stick with my 6 metre trailer I have lined up, 11.2 + 7.5 is less than 19 metres.
As a side note if the towed vehicle GVM is 3 tonne and the towing vehicle is 9.2 tare or 14.200 GVM is the 3 to 1 thing relevant??
Cheers

Re: Towing
Ray, when you remove the two seats its then a two seat car not a four seat .
That's how the law (Qld) interoperates it...and so does your insurance...Check the compliance plate on your vehicle and tell me what it says .
Just quoting what I know ,....now how fast were you traveling with the missing dozer blade....?
Bernie .

Re: Towing
Irrelevant on the basis that, in most jurisdictions - if not all, the towed vehicle, being over 2 tonnes, requires a braking system operable from the driver's position as well as a breakaway device.Kappy wrote: Anyway think I'll stick with my 6 metre trailer I have lined up, 11.2 + 7.5 is less than 19 metres.

I thought so, just thought I'd ask.
Probably all easier with a trailer and more storage any way.
