in the middle of drawing my water tank up and am after some rough sizes u all hold [ busses etc] i can get one made easly that is rectangle that will hold 450 l or i could get it made with a dog leg and that would get me 600l is it worth the headacke, we have a shower n macerator toilet in it , do yas think 450l would last a week taking it easy on water

What you doing washing the dog and the neighbours bus.crikey that would last us a month....

Take the time to add the extra. You should get a week from the smaller size though

Usage is directly relative to tank size. The more you carry the more you use. We recently spent 3 months on a mates 20m boat that carries 7000 lts water and can make 240lts an hour. Our average usage was 400 lts a day for 4 people, that is with freshwater deck hoses and toilet flushing. In Wilbor we have 300 litres of drinking water and the ability to pump river/creek water into a separate 120lt tank that I can send to the cold water for the inside and outside showers and flushing the toilet. Drinking water is for the galley and the HWS. It lasts us 3+ weeks.

450 ltrs will last a week for two people taking it easy (with some to spare). But it depends on a lot of other factors like, how much water your toilet uses for a flush, the type of shower rosette, when showering don't keep the water running when soaping up etc.

We have 2 x 375ltr tanks I built from ply and fibreglass, they sit between the chassis rail where the tailshaft used to be (converted to rear engine) We want to travel the inland dry areas so we figured we would need to take the water with us because it will be hard to find out there. I think we are about to head into the dryest period Aust has ever seen, water will be in short supply so better to carry what you can when you can get it.

BACAMICK - the bigger the tank, the more you use - IMHO go big but install a gauge somewhere prominent.

Having said that, does anyone know the contact details of the fellow at the CMCA Boonah rally who was selling impellor-driven sight gauges for around $50?

Very important to carry fuel in 2 tanks & water in more than one in my opinion.
Only takes a hose to come loose or a leak to let the contents out & you'll understand why.
Low pressure hose & taps from 1/2" irrigation supply shops is OK. (for water for me anyway)

We are talking about touring the highways, aren't we? I cannot see any reason to carry separate tanks of water or separate tanks of fuel whilst touring the highways or even the back roads of Australia. If your intention is to get of the sealed roads and venture out into the outback where civilisation is a bit sparse then that is a different story.
