Hi, all
Still at Maroochydore, done over 560km in the Talvor in only 32 days so costs are down a bit. SWMBO and Steffie are both well although the battered toad is getting a workout.
A neighbour was selling a satellite dish setup for $400, around half price, so we spent a fair bit of time researching the pros and cons of various aerials using my beloved ( no advertising plugs) Imic as a monitor. It works very well hooked up to the domestic coaxial with an Elgato Eyetv stick, but apparently one needs a $700 decoder for any mobile setup. Luckily one of the happy campers here is a Mic devotee and a general allround computer hero, and suggested we purchase an ( no plugs) Apricot TV Box for around $110. Subsequently called Apricot and found their TV Box uses a wifi as an aerial. Any PM's welcome.
See you on the back roads,
shonky et al.

Hi, all
Adminperson - We've a standard Tollstra prepaid wifi modem for the Imic and SWMBO's Whypad, and this also serves the Apricot Tv Box. Go to their site and have a look see. No VAST, no pointing aerials, no Uptos card, no cables etc.
( More tomorrow when we actually buy one).
Steffie is fine and says Gerday.
See you on the back roads,

Re: Budgeting
I'm guessing you are referring to "apple TV"
http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/s ... AU-KWG-PLA
Why not just speak English
I think that I will stick with VAST

Hi, all
Seems Apricot tv boxes are great in principle, but when being used via wifi the data usage goes ballistic. Anybody tried the latest Wingman Freevision?

Re: Budgeting
Shonky,
we have had geat success with our foxtel satelite! Our local agent sold us and old dish and wired up the van. All we do now is grab the foxtel unit from the house and put it in the van to decode the signals. We havent gone too far from home with it yet, but so far, it has been a great way to use our prepaid foxtel on the road.
Hope this idea gives you something else to consider.

Deborah, I am interested in doing this. Is the dish freestanding or have you mounted it somewhere? Any idea where we could get hold of a second hand Foxtel dish?

Re: Budgeting
Lesley you only have to wander around the scrap metal yards or maybe just tap your mates on the shoulder.
Housing trust areas are a good place to find them. Tenants just walk away & leave them behind.

Housing trust areas are a good place to find them. Tenants just walk away & leave them behind. Is that the same as Housing Commission (Government Housing)? Never heard that expression before.

I'll gather a heap up (dishes) and you can use them as hats in the rice fields.........
