Shell 100 or 120 was good if you could get it. I didn't realise that there were so many old fart's here that had a mis-spent youth. And for some of us it probably kept going for a few years after that. Yes Dot, ahhh the memories. It was fun getting old wasn't it.
Cheers

The old BP 135 green avgas and shell M oil so the rings didn't tear the bore to shreds, good for around 11:1 compression, no forced induction on the street back then so it was all multiple carbies, high compression and big valve heads...... and keep your fingers crossed you didn't snap a crank or have a flywheel come through the bellhousing, great days that converted a mths income into a nights fun or heartbreak

We used to be able to get 20l drums on Nitro Methanol fuel from 1 servo in town, you know the stuff top fuel drag cars run - we used to add 10l to a full tank of super, didn't actually do much for my old Hillman except if it backfired it would blow the exhaust clean off.
However my mate had a Mk2 Zephyr with 120 thou off the head, decked the block I don't know how much, bored it out and had Bedford truck pistons in it, with triple carbs a huge cam etc, well he had to run the Nitro fuel or it wouldn't even start.
Reckon he must have had 15/1 compression in the dam thing, but it sure did go.
Of course it didn't last all that long, when the engine died it did it in a big way, never did find some of the crankshaft.

Good times indeed.

Gee, There is more petrol heads than I thought. It was mostly fun then, but now you would be classed as a hoon and get your ride confiscated.

I fitted my Austin A30 with a new Morris 1100 motor complete with twin SUs, a Morris 1000 remote shift gearbox and telescopic shocks in lieu of the lever action ones. A friend with an MGA couldn't understand why he couldn't lose me between Liverpool and Gosford via the old Pacific Hwy.
