I think the problem Bernie is having is that the way it has been put in, the direction to push it out is almost directly behind the arm that the tie-rod connects to. It is usually bolted to the stub axle assembly. If he can't hold the drift/punch directly inline & hit it with a sizeable hammer then it isn't going anywhere.
Bernie hasn't been back for a while so he's probably still wrapping skinned knuckles...................

That's why I suggested a long drift.... (3 foot-ish) with a locating, centre hole drilled in the end.
Then you can get a real swing on the mallet.

Hi all sorry for not being around to answer . Been at a family fun day at the G/Kids school in Maryborough Qld .(home now)
Terry I will take the top cover off and see if it will go down a bit to maybe remove some tension on the pin ?
Jon if you want to buy me those tools be my guest , would look good in the shed ......but .....I don't think they would fit my application , also there is only around 18 inch's from the nut to the rear of the wheel well , no room to swing a nat let alone a hammer . But thanks for the help from all of you's .
Bernie .
There has been other stuff getting in the way over this week so haven't had much time to get back the King pin .

If the pin is worn it will have an edge on it.
It only takes a whisker to catch and not come out.... I still like the idea of threading the hole and pulling it out.
(screw a stud in, put a socket over the stud and then tighten a nut onto the other end.) Even if it gives a preload, and then the big whack.

Precisely the method I used to install the shackle bushes, still took quite a bit of effort though.jon_d wrote: (screw a stud in, put a socket over the stud and then tighten a nut onto the other end.)

Jon at present your idea is in practice as yet no movement but I have pressure on the pin . And have been hitting from the other end .
What I have done is tap a thread into the pin I have welded another thread onto the thread that is inside the pin? hope this makes sense?
Then I have a socket against the axle around the pin with some washers on then the nut that I'm screwing down . All this so the tread inside the pin is not turning just pulling .
