inverter air con

I spent $850 buying and installing a domestic split system. It is quiet and efficient. The air movement even as a fan is superior to a roof mounted unit. Heats and cools my forty footer to SWMBOs satisfaction.

Where did you place the compressor, that my dilemma.

Kappy, we have a rear engine unit. The only place I could identify for the compressor was forward of the front wheels, next to the generator. I then needed to plumb up 2 roof mount distribution units. Couldnt get anyone interested i n doing the job. The new dometic harrier inverter unit was a straight swap of the old unit which was 20 yrs old. It works really well, and uses a third less power. I have a second unit in our bedroom, its only 3 years old, but we will keep it for now. The new unit makes a great heater as well, and I am confident it will meet our needs for now. Cost for the new unit was 2000.00 plus 250 freight, a dozen crown ales for the forklift bloke, and a meal out for the neighbour who offered to help, saving my wife from having to climb on the roof. Did the rest ourselves.

So does this new Dometic Harrier still require a separate unit, like the domestic splits? if so how big is it, I couldn't find any dimensions for it, thought it was all part of the roof system.

I found a bloke in Narrogin who would fit the cassette system I was looking at but he wanted a Kidney.

Mount it to the roof, plug it in and turn it on.

This definitely sounds like the answer to my prays.

I too have limited space to house a compressor so this'll work.

Your is fitting in as replacement.

Is there any structural additions I may need to add to house the unit?

Whereever youmount it needs to be able to support 45kg. You may needto brace the roof, and of course ensure theres a 240v supply. Pretty happy with it overall. The instructions go through measuring the roof opening and how to cut etc.

So it hit 33 inside today, with windows open, 3 fans going, time to crank the air con. Batteries have been full since mid morning. Why not run the air off the batteries says the smarter half. 45 mins later down to 28, batteries still at 88 % . Air con set at 26, so I suspect that shortly the incoming will be more than the outgoing, and we will finish the day cool and still over 80%
