radio on AM?

Post by BruceS »

I recently bought a cheap radio/CD player/USB/SD card etc and I'm having trouble trying to get it on the AM band.
The booklet/manual that comes with it indicates it CAN do AM but on contacting the seller (Australia) he reckons it won't and because he never said it would on the Ebay ad, only offers return for refund.
I'm still not convinced it can't do AM. Probably have to change some other setting before it becomes an option?
Maybe turn off stereo? Any suggestions?

That's a bit of a nuisance Bruce, but all the ads over the net only show FM, I can't find a manual for it yet, but seriously there are only about 5 AM stations left in Oz that are worth listening to. Go to the wreckers and get an old AM radio and one speaker and set it up under the seat or something.
Good luck.

Cheap Aldi radios still feature AM. A lot of ABC stations, as well as commercial, still use AM.

Yes Jim, there are still a lot out in the sticks too. Anyone travelling to Perth from the East or across the Hay Plains will need AM to hear any radio stations. Here around Murray Bridge we have Radio 5MU which broadcasts both AM & FM.
AM seems to be a bit more for the older ones whereas FM has a lot of chat about the soapies on TV & more modern music crap!
I just know that this radio WILL do AM but there is a secret to doing it. I'll keep trying.....

I think you will be disappointed.
There are still a few car radios with AM still available, but not this one.
AM is great for long distance traveling but we are all supposed to have an ipod with 300 years of music to listen to instead.

Even my new in-house tuner doesn't have AM. I had to choose between AM and Internet streaming and went with this century.

I agree with Bruce, you need "am" reception in many, many places throughout Australia. How else could you listen to Radio2 at 2am in the morning? :)
