Yes an Allison would be good but would involve new adapters, mounts, software and controllers, wiring harness etc etc and a heap more money!
Problem is that a visit to Allison is required for programming changes and wiring harness and controllers for the 6 speed cost more than the tranny. Running them behind a non electronic engine means aftermarket controller and more money!
I already had the 4L80E x2, aftermarket controller and it has already been running in the Oka for over 5 years with no problems.
Two Oka owners have already broken a 6 speed Allison bellhousing!

Just wrote a long winded reply about free camps around Maryborough and Gympie then realised that you are way way north of there.
Enjoy the Qld prickly weather Dot, it won't last for long. I hope.

Had a visit from Peter & Sandra yesterday and they stayed over night in the Upper Mannum secure rest area, also known as the over crowded with his own vehicles T1 driveway. We had a look and discussion about the possible causes for the torque converter failures and a remedy is being trialled. I guess it will be an unknown if this was the fix or the torque converter built to tractor pull specs, but hopefully it will return to a reliable unit for future trips.

Yes many thanks to Terry and Margaret for the parking space overnight, also met Brian and Bruce which was great too. A very pleasant evening spent.
We've made it to east of Mildura after a spot of Op shop cruising before we left Mannum.
The Oka is trundling along ok at 95-100 kph and we've got our fingers and toes crossed!!
Chased the weather front most of the way and it has been spitting rain all afternoon.
Pulled into Bottle Bend overnight camp but access to the river is locked off probably due to either recent or impending flooding so are camped at the first camp area but out of sight of the road and only one other caravan here.
