I often wonder what the story is when caravans have no grey water tanks and travelling through rain saturated areas. All the way here from Lake Illawarra every paddock had lakes in it and every creek had burst its banks, no trees looking for a drink of grey water any where there, so what do those with no holding tanks do, just drop it in with all the other water laying around?Macca wrote:Put it on the gardens as well- still a drought on - a green drought!

Cant answer that one Terry. We only stay in caravan parks, so use whatever method of removing the grey water, that they ask. Greetings from a very chilly Stockton. Winds have dropped a little, but the chill is definitely still in the air. The beach was full of lots of little bits of chopped up fresh green seaweed, from last night's big gales.

one of the grizzles about dumping willy-nilly is the potential of there being "life" in the grey water. Seeds, bacteria, viruses etc, all from outside the typical "life" that the host land would see. Such life then decimates the local life during its own season. Or some such.
I thought it a long bow at the time but the poms probably thought the same when they bought over a couple of rabbits.

Apparently passion fruit and tomato seeds are the worst because the revert to their feral state after a few generations and become a weed. We have all seen the apple trees growing along the road side where someone has thrown out the core, no one stops to pick the apples so the fall on the ground and fruit fly moves in and another area is infested with fruit fly. Banana passion fruit is probably one of the worst, it strangles trees as it dominates the area but no native animals eat the fruit, just the birds and they spread it for miles around.bagmaker wrote:one of the grizzles about dumping willy-nilly is the potential of there being "life" in the grey water. Next comes the grey water smell, fine if it soaks in the ground, but if the area is already saturated them the water is mixes with takes on the same bacteria that caused the smell in the first place, now the whole pool of water stinks. Different if it's moving water because it gets diluted to the extent it's insignificant, but in a stagnant pool that will sit there for weeks or mths it is a real problem

Hi Dot,
While you are up that way, a site well worth the visit, is Kooroorinya falls, and Basalt wall, 60 km south of Prairie on the Muttaburra - Prairie Rd.
not a free camp, there is a charge, hot showers flush toilets, no power, but who needs it? when we were there the caretakers/ hosts, (Pauline and Neville Sutcliffe)were great, free firewood to every site, Wog Ball (bush rules Boche) was played most afternoons followed by or during the happy hour. If you go there would you please remember them to us, (the worst they could do is kick you out)
