You left at the right time, it persisted down this afternoon. There is so much water around we have lakes in the driveway still and it stopped raining hrs ago.
Most of the areas close to the rivers are closed now because the water level is so high, I wonder how high it is at Junction Bend now, the pumps only had a few more positions left that they could be pulled up to keep them out of the water a few weeks back when we came through and there has been a lot more rain since then.
Not quite what we had in mind!

Re: Not quite what we had in mind!
It fell down most of the night last night and continued to come down as we headed east, from Rankin Springs there were lots of water fording places, stopped counting after about twenty, with a couple more than 300mm deep and up to 100 m long. We've stopped at West Wyalong tonight in the showground as all roads north are closed, the Newell is closed to all except trucks and high clearance 4wd's not towing, the country is awash!
Anyone intending to use a lot of the free camps along the rivers had better make other arrangements as anywhere off the bitumen is very soft and anything near the rivers is either under water or about to be. Had to use 4wd to get out of a rest area at lunchtime.
The rivers and creeks are right at the top of the banks and have flooded most low lying areas, dirt roads leading off the highway look like canals and most are closed.

Sure is a land of contrasts at times, isn't it?
Wait a few months & the "Global warming" mob will be complaining about the hot, dry & dusty conditions and once again the Blue Mountains will be ablaze!
Don't take any chances with water over the road.... everyone!

I remember in about 73 ish there was big flood and Dad was driving back from the goldcoast. We had to go via Hay to beat the water and into Echuca.
There was one section where the water was lapping the highway bitumen... Everything was closing. We go to Echuca, and the river was upto the tops of the levy.

As we had 4wd and weren't towing they let us travel north on the Newell between West Wyalong and Forbes, was an interesting drive, lots of flooded sections and one section where they had been working on the road prior to the rain was very soft with a good 400+mm of water over it, needed 4wd and some of the B doubles were struggling with the soft bottom. Word was that they reckoned it would be closed completely later today which it is according to the RMS site.
Tonight we are in Merriwa at the RSL free motorhome park in the middle of town and Sandy doesn't have to cook!

We made it home ok, uneventful run along the Golden and New England highways to Rutherford and then home to Dungog.

They reckon you tore the road up that bad they will have to close it for weeks
Noel & Jannelle left at lunch time and plan to go via Broken Hill to get through.

I was very gentle Terry, the only time I gave it a bit was in that boggy section on the Newell, didn't want to bust the front mount

It didn't feel any different that I could tell and seemed to drive ok with no weird noises etc.
